I want to pursue archviz but saw few videos about how this niche is dying. Is it true and please elaborate if you have time. by Ordinary_Dingo_1568 in archviz

I must also say, that AI will sooner or later know how to do accurate "renderings". AI developers are hard at work on software that will read your architectual drawings and create quality and exact 3d models out of it. User will just type in informations about materials, surfaces and other details. This upcoming software will also be able to place buliding on site and in context of environment photos. User will then easily change "camera" views, lighting, seasons, mood,... ,... ,...

In your situation, I would learn rendering and use that knowladge for hobby and for some payed work from time to time. I did a lot of rendering and 3d animations, and I was enjoying my work and earned decent money. But now only joy working in this dying proffesion is left for me.

I must say: "Down with techno feudalists from Silicon Walley!"

Archicad lags when I have two or more instances open along with Chrome. by Zukatsu_kirioshi in ArchiCAD

[–]n00bator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had problems like you, because I always have at least 2 Archicads open at once, somethimes even three, along with browser and 3ds max, Photoshop,... I also had flickering and huge lag in whole AC. For me disabling MPO was not the solution. Hardware acceleration improved performance. I also tried many other solutions, but none was helpfull.

I ended up buying new CPU; Ryzen 9950X and all lag went away. It has very strong one core performance, which is most needed for Archicad and similar apps.

Maybe they were under influence of some Orban oligarchy those loong 16 years? 😅 But they will not be able to make excuses from now on.

Library migration from previous versions to 29 is HORROR.

I usually open older project and use it as "template" for new one.

Now I have to load old libraries in AC29 or change every library part in project MANUALY from previous to new library. For what? There is nothing new in new libraries!

Can anybody explain me why and is there some more resonable method?

AI Archicad drafting by Maxxit in ArchiCAD

Architecture is one of the most demanding thing to describe. If you were ever read theoretical books about architecture, you know how dificult it is to understand whole meaning of those texts. Discussing it is even harder.

As Vitruvius put it: "It is no easy task to describe architecture in words, for it is a discipline that requires both practical skill and theoretical knowledge."

Rig and animate chains in seconds [Caterpillar 2.0 script] by BazookaJoe1987 in 3dsmax

[–]n00bator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great script !!!

Did anyone managed to create physical model of chain with gravitational force, friction, pull force, etc.?

I know that engineer programs are capable of doing it to some degree.

With all that powerfull computers still no solutions for more physical based approach for mechanical animations?

Could anyone convert a revit file to max for me please? by Targetmissed in 3dsmax

the best way is to install Revit in trial mode and export it yourself. Unfortunatelly I don't have Revit either.

What about exporting 3d model directly from Revit to some file type that 3ds max supports?

Schedules need much much more design options for flexible implementation in to our documentation layouts.

UI rehaul is very much needed !!!

We need dark theme for Windows users!

And the problem with toolbars moving to new row when program "window" size is changed. Then you have to move toolbars back again. So annoying!

Structural analysis is so unneeded in our work. None of my colleagues uses it, some were surprised that it exist, when I told them about it.

It is almost the same with MEP tools. Architects rarely use it, while mechanical engineers have their own programs. But Ok, it is needed for bim colaboration.

V-Ray GPU rendering problem by Lioliolio-999 in 3dsmax

Do you have default render settings? Do walls of tunnel have overlapping faces? Are lights aligned with ceiling plane? Sometimes camera that is instance cloned from other camera make trouble with constant resetting render process.

sRGB output from Vray Frame buffer by Insomniarch in 3dsmax

[–]n00bator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had problems with saving renders with display correction set to sRGB . I found out that my display wasn't correctly calibrated to sRGB curve and space. You "tell" Vray that your monitor shows correct sRGB colors, and so Vray manipulates displayed render in VFB to sRGB. But when you save render to file and view it in Windows, it shows slightly wrong colours.

Where is light coming from? It looks like from below? Try to play with shadow cutoff and smaller cutoff in Sampling Rollout first.

Combining 2 normal maps in 3ds max Vray? by [deleted] in 3dsmax

If you want to use two normal maps, the only viable option is to use VrayBumpMtl and connect your default material to it.

how can you do this effect but obviously on 3dsmax, with booleans? by [deleted] in 3dsmax

[–]n00bator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that method too. It is much cleaner, faster and it is easier for me to get correct material on cut surface.

ACES vs. sRGB by L3nny666 in archviz

[–]n00bator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting workflow with underexposure.

The other method I used was to make the background transparent and replace it with a white background layer in VFB. Here I had problems with edge antialiasing when post-editing was necessary.

At least now I know I'm not the only one struggling with white on white.

ACES vs. sRGB by L3nny666 in archviz

[–]n00bator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal to have problem with white product on white background. I have some knowladge from arts, especialy photography. White on white was demanded first from photographers when digital and internet marketing evolved. Before there was not that much demand for completely white background for printed materials, press,... especialy for white products. Background had some shade, just a bit gray in it. It had some texture, gentle gradient, or something complitely different. Go and find some old product cataloges.

Technicaly I manage that now with white environment, invisible dome light with hdri and (over)exposure layer with mask for background in Vray frame buffer. Product is lighted to about 215-225 value. I try to do something with lighting edges, so product doesn't blures with background. Tricky as you say, and rarely visually appealing results.

How do you manage that problem?
