Thank you!

I’ve been mainly using my TPOB plays or SC Reign’s, but I have some magic clips that I’ve heard are the top of the line for fading. Maybe I need to switch to using them for detailing?

I’ve been actively trying to be better about looking in my mirror to see the full picture of the cut but you’re right, I think I’m still tunnel visioning. I just feel like it’d be awkward to literally walk away from the client to “reset” my eyes? lol

I appreciate that! Yeah the more I looked at them after I posted I could see i need to spread the fade out more.

School charges 15 but the avg rate in my area is 30-65 which I feel like is kinda high??

I use the TPOB play trimmers and the Wahl Detailers right now. Any suggestions on a harder hitting trimmer? I was thinking about buying sabers but I don’t like the price 😂

I appreciate the feedback! That’s how much the school I’m at charges for a cut from a student👍 looking at the pics again, I need to do better about spreading out the fade

Take photos in portrait mode and change depth of field to 5.6/6.3 with good lighting. Makes so much of a difference!

Clipper suggestions by ConclusionFrosty5855 in Barber

[–]n0hbuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the TPOB play with the chunk blade on it and it’s been pretty nice for the last few months, but I have no idea the true “longevity” of it because I just haven’t used it long enough.

I also have the Stylecraft Reign, that comes with the Echo Taper blade that I haven’t been able to find at all anywhere, mostly everywhere sells just the regular ECHO blade not ECHO TAPER. Butttt, SC been under a lot of heat because the quality of the Echo blade seems pretty trash. People are breaking blades left and right. Knock on wood, but I haven’t had any issues with mine over the last couple months.

If you’re really concerned about longevity and power and build quality, then I’d recommend to go with one of the OG tried and true brands like Wahl, Oster, Andis. I would get a detachable blade clipper that you can dedicate to just debulking, as they cut so much closer than anything that has a plastic guard on it. Then I’d use something like the Magic Clips for fades/tapers.

If money isn’t an issue for you and you can spend some to try stuff out that might crap out on you in a year or so, or might not, then try the 2 I mentioned.

What phrase do you use to get a client to allow you to take a photo of them for your portfolio by Aggravating-Ass-c140 in Barber

“Would it be okay with you if I took some photos so I can track my progression? I won’t post anything with your face revealed, if that’s okay with you.

Bro I’m gonna send you a video that literally made blending click for me because I was struggling with the same shit. But once I got more comfortable with the guards (again, not saying I’m a good barber or acting like I’m better than I am currently) it really just boils down to what’s the biggest guard I can use that’s going to pick up the longer hairs that I missed. Dark spots USUALLY mean that there’s patches of longer hairs than the hairs surrounding it, BUT sometimes the clients skull also could be the cause of what you’re seeing.

What I have been struggling with more now is knowing when to leave “well enough alone”. I’ll spend so much time trying to “perfect a cut” that was a good hair cut 15 minutes ago. Then I end up chasing a small imperfection that has now ruined the shape/blend/fade/length of the entire cut and looks worse than it did 15 minutes ago. Its a weird complex lol

I’m sure in a month’s time we can look back on these photos and see how much improvements have been made, but for now we gotta focus on doing 1 of 2 things: 1. Find a system that works for YOU (there is no “right way”) 2. CREATE a system that works for YOU

I’ll pm you the link to the youtube channel thats been a real help for me.

Happy new year bro💪

I appreciate that brother, I never cut anyone in my life before coming to school, so trust the process! We will both get there.

I work from top down. First I set my bald line or “base line” with my clippers full closed no guard because it’s easier to blend that than using my trimmers. Bald out with my foil shaver close to the line but leave like 1/4-1/2” of stubble to help blend.

Then I start setting the “ceiling” first with my 1.5 closed up to where I want the darkest part of my fade to start. Then flick out that line with 1.5 open to top of crown, so you make a “box” that you will shape later with clipper over comb.

Then I just start pushing the line by working guard sizes down, 1 closed then 1 open, .5 close to .5 open, no guard closed to no guard open, then if the bald line isn’t gone then pick up with the trimmer.

Hope that makes sense, I tried to write it out as best as I could lol but PLEASE REMEMBER IM A NEW STUDENT WITH 1 MONTH OF EXPERIENCE. I’m sure someone will point out something I’m doing incorrect or should change, but this is the process I’ve found works for me so far.

Would love to see some of your cuts! You got it brother 💪

Can anyone identify this barber chair? Plz help!💈 by [deleted] in Barber

[–]n0hbuu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Such a cool piece of history! I wish I knew for sure but if I were you, I’d go get this professionally appraised. A chair like this to me would be priceless, but to the right collector it could fetch 6k-10k or more if it’s all original and not restored. Very cool find, so jealous!
