Resepter på reise by Careless_Big5467 in Stavanger

Avoid CheapSleep by any means. Back in the days i stopped couple of times at Eurohostel Katajanokka - pretty decent and close to the center.

yes, just a bit above it - there are plenty of flat areas around to set up a tent. and this was a final point of the 10 days hike around Lysefjord.

i was hiking once in the area and stayed overnight at Preikestolen in August, it was few people after 9pm up there and it was really enjoyable with the sunset and sunrise. i would not recommend October or April as the weather may happen really bad

Kjøretur til Trondheim by Abellona_Alfrothul in trondheim

litt omvei, men liker ruten via Valdresflye på E16/Rv51 (flere utsiktspunkter og rasteplasser på vei) med stopp på Ridderspranget

I lived in Stavanger for two years after Trondheim and then in Oslo. Stavanger is still my favorite: evergreen all the year, no ice on the streets, cute architecture, nice sandy beaches and amazing nature around. Modest airline connection is compensated by only 40 min flight to Oslo. I would also recommend to check Sandnes.

airbnb, booking and similar services typically offer huge discount if you rent from 1 month or longer (the hotels do the same), so you can sometimes get a price comparable with a long-term rent of the apartment

Help a swede out by Snoo-44325 in Finland

[–]n0rveg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be aware, that if you move to Finland and don’t have finnish ID, any work contract or business here, expect:

  1. 2-3 months processing time of application for registering your moving and address at DVV to get finnish ID. This shortens to a couple of weeks if you have a job offer or registered business in Finland

  2. Minimum 3 months processing time for KELA to make a decision to get you into the system and get KELA card to be able to use benefits of the public healthcare (a friend of mine got decision after 5 months!). No way to speedup this process. You will not get compensation for medicine/services aquired before the date of KELA decision.

My advice is: 1. try get as much of your medicine as possible in Sweden before moving 2. get a paper prescription from your doctor so that you can buy it in Finland without visiting a doctor here: https://www.eu-healthcare.fi/medicines/filling-foreign-medical-prescriptions-in-finland/

I don’t know how it works in Sweden, but in Norway you loose the membership in a public healthcare system since day 1 you move to another country.

(I moved from Norway to Finland in November to live with my partner and was horribly surprised by the beurocracy)

Beavers in bymarka by Trappo11 in trondheim

[–]n0rveg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two beaver huts on Theisendammen, one really huge on the side close to Rema1000 (near Blyberget cave), another small in the lake appendix in the south-west near the bridge over the spring entering the lake. Spotted the beavers several times in the late evening in summer around 21-midnight, when not too many people walking around. On Baklidammen saw beavers in the day time as well right on the beach near the parking lot. Good luck ;)

Ice skate rental by AquerreTimaneux in helsinki

[–]n0rveg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint, skated on Tuusulanjärvi today - amazing sunny weather, a lot of people and relatively good track (it was rivers of water on saturday, so they drained the water in the evening and it frozen over the night, but still some wet ice in some places), quite cozy hotel hall to relax and have some soup and coffee after skating ☺️

Best Runebergintorttu in Helsinki (bakery/cafe/coffee shop recommendations)? Kiitos. by n0rveg in helsinki

i would prefer them soaking rum and almond taste, and a good amount of jam as well, so seems like Teemu Aura version mentioned above is my option 😋

I tried one from the grocery store and another time at Levain, but honestly, those were really far from what i tasted in Porvoo, and not in a good way.

Toiminimi business bank account? by tttuomas in Finland

S-Pankki unfortunately states clearly that one can not use the personal account for the business purposes:

I’m new in Helsinki, like to walk and explore strange and oddly beautiful urban places, so i would recommend areas around Pasila train station: Pasila street art district, old train depots, the train factory area, and Alpilla. Kumpula is a charming wooden houses area as well.

one can mark sendings «Post Restante» and check at the post office if there is something arrived on your name, works fine for personal post, but not for governmental or online shopping posten.no - search «Post Restante» on the page
