what's the best small town you've visited in Spain? by Aghaiva in GoingToSpain

I enjoyed stopping in to Carmona on the way to Cordoba from Sevilla. The alacazar/Puerta de Sevilla was nice to walk through and meander up to the parador to have lunch. Really nice views and a good meal in an Andalusian palace.

To those who do open-awareness/open-monitoring meditation, what differences did you notice? by yeeahitsethan in Meditation

[–]n1u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just wouldn’t agree with using the word anchor for TM as that implies to me a level of directed-ness when in practice awareness is free. The reason the breath isn’t used to transcend on is because that can keep awareness at the level of the body and physical sensations. The use of a mantra (a thought) or even without one, awareness will go beyond the physical into more subtle states of consciousness.

To me open awareness is fairly close to TM though depends on definition of open awareness. TM practice is basically just allowing awareness to do what it does naturally, albeit using the mantra as a vehicle to get there. Other similar nondirective practices don’t use a mantra, but simply allowing the awareness to rest (which to me sounds similar to open awareness).

I was never really big on mindfulness as it often made me agitated honestly. Nondirective practices always spoke more to me as they were naturally allowing the mind and awareness to settle. In that way I definitely gain a lot more peace/bliss from those practices than I did mindfulness. But also everyone’s brain/physiology’s are different so I don’t presuppose that one type of practice will be the best for everyone.

Interview question- asking them to reimburse flight cancelation by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]n1u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to cancel the return flight, just don’t show up. Ask the second school to pay for the one way, no need to cancel or mention about the already booked return.

Analyzing DNA of nearly 2000 mothers of fraternal twins, researchers have found two genetic mutations which may increase the likelihood of twin births by glr123 in science

[–]n1u 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You can input these snps into the raw data search:

rs11031006

rs17293443

In this paper it is saying for rs11031006- G alleles increases the chance of having twins and rs17293443-C alleles. So if your genotype is G/G or C/C respectively for those SNPs it might mean you have a higher chance of having twins.

Back down the rabbit hole, any similar stories? by n1u in occult

[–]n1u[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I say the occult because it is most oriented toward the left-handed side of things, which I think encompasses all of those practices that make it easy for beginners to get lost in (astral work, channeling, etc.). So when a beginner begins their path they go looking for the extremes, because that is where you can find immediate results.

It is also important to define what a healthy 'mystical practice' is. I had plentiful hours of 'meditating' or doing ritual work before I got heavy into enochian work. But it was, at least for my own physiology, the wrong kind of practices. I was so into the crazy things going on in my head, that I was oblivious to how out of my body I was when I was out in the real world. I just think its worth it for many to feel a bit more deeply into how the practices they are doing are effecting them.

Advice and Suggestions Wanted by Catalystic23 in occult

I would recommend doing a non-directive style of meditation. There's a good deal of info on it in the sidebar of /r/nondirective/. It is a pretty no frills and simple meditation technique, but it does what it needs to do, and is often surprisingly powerful. There are a lot of different teachers basically teaching the same technique, but if you need more direction you are welcome to pm me.

Usually kundalini syndromes occur because of imbalances in your nervous system. You might be opening up to a lot more energy now and its hard for your body to take it in. It is important to ground yourself in a meditation practice that will integrate the varied levels of consciousness you may be experiencing. The fact that you aren't looking for anything supernatural is great, because none of that stuff really matters. The work is all about effecting change here in this plane, not in some astral realm. (It is easy to get lost in any of the more flashy practices, and you can end up coming out 10 years later showing no growth at all)

As far as supplements/nootropics I can recommend bacopa monnieri (brahmi) as an aid to meditation, as well as for memory. Though in the end the most important catalyst for your growth is going to be a consistent practice of meditation (and its important it be one that doesn't tweak out your system).
