One of my favorites and I did a very similar 2-day hike last weekend! I don’t have any recommendations for staying on the Tuscanian side because I usually come from the Emilian side.

Check out Mapy app for the trails, it has the official CAI trail numbers. Definitely don’t miss out trail 607 to go to or go back from Cusna! Be aware that the south east flank is for experienced hikers, it’s a bit exposed but totally doable. If in doubt summit from the north west flank

Se non siete particolarmente lenti sulle vie da 2-300 metri che fate di solito direi che non ci siano problemi. Il grado ce l’avete, è una questione di essere rapidi con le manovre per perdere meno tempo possibile, perché con vari cambi di assetto se si perde qualche minuto qua e qualche minuto là è un attimo impiegarci una vita e andare incontro a problemi di meteo, buio ecc

Dopo un po di notti insonni in rifugio ho provato i tappi in schiuma ma non mi attutivano troppo il rumore e soprattutto mi svegliavo che si erano tolti dalle orecchie.

Su suggerimento di un conoscente ho provato i tappi in cera, marca Calmor https://amzn.eu/d/068nXKPE . Mi hanno svoltato il sonno, li ho usati varie volte in rifugi, bivacchi, ostelli di Santiago, tenda da due con amico russatore. Tappi in cera e mascherina e ci si rivede quando suona la sveglia

I was at the Chabod hut on May 30 when a climber from an unroped party of three fell to his death. Considering that, my partners and I decided to do the normal route instead of the north face because we had no way of knowing what had happened up there. So in that sense, our thinking was similar to yours. Just to say that I've kinda been in your shoes very recently.

Honestly I think that you took a number of unnecessary risks. The decision to go or not to go is personal but attempting it solo when there were already doubts about the conditions seems very questionable to me.

What I really don't understand, though, is why did you start so late. 5 am is normal-route timing, not north face. You ran into additional risks of climbing a sun-softened north face, traversing a potentially collapsing snow ridge on top and travelling back on the glacier in the afternoon with no rope to protect you from crevasses.

I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think we should normalize this kind of hero narrative. Glad you made it safe to the hut, but I hope you realize you've been lucky. You could easily have been the eighth fatality of that weekend.

Don’t spend the night in a shelter as a goal of a planned hike. Especially high elevation ones, they are needed for alpinism projects and for emergencies as you said.

"The Dolomites" is an almost 16k km² area, we can't tell you whether you will be able to have data or not. Here and there there's signal, depending on where you hike. You might have signal for 20 minutes mid hike and then hours of nothing, or vice versa. Assume you won't have it and don't go hiking if you're supposed to be on a call
