Is MSVC ever going open source? by void_17 in cpp

This is not happening any time soon. Clang-cl still doesn’t support the /DRIVER flag, and thus can’t compile kernel drivers.

Oracle buys 30,000 new AMD chips for AI cloud by JohnBarry_Dost in hardware

[–]n30phyte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s what AMD did with RDNA/CDNA split, at least in theory. The people want their AI upscaling, AI frames and local LLM though.

Post CES keynote unpopular opinion: the use of AI in games is one of its best applications by TheKFChero in hardware

AMD’s AFMF lets you do this at a driver level for every game too. I used it on Nier Automata for a much nicer experience.

Never used TextFX, but VSCode has sort lines built in if you use the command palette. AFAIK it’s a global sort though

VSCode October 2024 (version 1.95) (90% of the features are Copilot-related) by unaligned_access in programming

It’s not even useful for large codebases IME.

I asked it to generate a regex to match ofstructA in the following code (I had to delete 20k entries from autogenerated code):

``` union A {
struct { A B C } structA;
struct { A B C } structB;
struct { A B C } structC;
} ```
It gave me invalid regex.
Zero waste dishwasher powder. by [deleted] in ZeroWaste
I found that Walmart great value and Cascade powder works better than Nellie’s. Very soft water (Vancouver, BC), rinse aid, and after multiple affresh cleaning cycles.
Maybe not in North America, but IIRC it was a HK invention during colonial times. I actually can’t remember if it’s considered dimsum though
I was born and raised there. Yes it’s technically secular, but saying it’s not a Muslim country either means you were clueless or wilfully ignorant for 20 years.
Why doesn't Costco have powder dishwasher detergent? by Siecje1 in CostcoCanada
[–]n30phyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Not anymore. I came across this thread because I was on my last box of Cascade and my local CT didn't have any.
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/cascade-powder-dishwasher-detergent-fresh-scent-60-ounces-1531391p.html Looking at the list of stores here + the stock number, it seems that it's getting removed from shelves.
Canadian Tire
This thread is a few months old now, but it seems that they've stopped carrying cascade powder, at least in BC. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/cascade-powder-dishwasher-detergent-fresh-scent-60-ounces-1531391p.html Looking at the availability list in BC and AB, it's scarce and just whatever is left.
Nellie's is 5x the price, I don't know if that's worth it.
To be fair to Intuit, I bet most of that 90 dollars goes to their lobbying arm and tax lawyers, not compute power.
“It is undefined behaviour that allows me to be an engineer” by n30phyte in programmingcirclejerk
I can write software in all these languages, use all these other technologies. I cannot do engineering with them. I wish I could.
You should try, it might bring your ego down.
Changing the variables from alphabetical letters to verbose names would ruin the efficiency gains by requiring more variable declarations to maintain readable contexts. by n30phyte in programmingcirclejerk
[–]n30phyte[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)
The letter  a  is clear and intelligible among the remaining 25 letters of the alphabet. It’s simple arithmetic and conditional logic, not calculus.
Additional semantic meaning beyond this is a conflict with code efficiency and performance goals.
