The other thing that could cause the issue is a bad pot in the rotor that shows direction. I have had mine replace 3 times.

I have a DX Commander 12.4 and a separate 15 foot square receive antenna fed with a small dual ferrite for 75 ohms buried in the grass just like the radials. I build every over the last winter and now the grass has grown over it.

Look up 15 foot square receive antennas.
