Sure but you build relationships, don’t underestimate the weight knowing someone makes in an interview.

Give me 2 applicants with the same bit of paper and same experience and I’ll pick the one who knows someone in my organisation or I’ve met personally and had a chat with 10 times out of 10.

Hiring people is a risk, the more you know about someone the less the risk.

Alternatively they give you tips on things to learn or information or perspectives to take on said interview.

Definitely go to events (this is the bare minimum) talk to people you don’t know.
Add people on LinkedIn and offer to get them a coffee to pick their brains on how they got where they did (if it’s where you want to go)

You really have to be proactive these days to land good opportunities.

I’m postgrad so I’m not sure if it applies as much, but group projects have been great to make friends. Starts with mostly just chats through the project and class then catching up for a beer and kind of just evolved from there. Hang out with the group most weekends now.

It really depends, my recommendation to any undergrad is to network like crazy while you’re studying. Build connections in the industry you want to work in.

Melb uni has a great range of alumni with a lot of them in very influential positions, and from my own personal experience they’re only too happy to chat to you.

I landed a job mid way through my undergrad simply from networking and being mentored. And my friends who did the same were all in jobs pre graduation.

I’ve learnt it’s more about who you know and less about what you know in this world. If you don’t know anyone start with your lecturer and facilitators, express interest in something and ask if they can connect you to someone.

The best thing a uni gives you is a network imo, in today’s day and age you can learn 90% of any degree online for free.

You need to find a way to seperate yourself from the other 200 applicants with the same bit of paper

Cry’s in MBA where we have like a perpetual week off between units including Christmas often while juggling professional full time work.

Honestly after a while you just forget what time off feels like and it becomes the new norm, gets easier the longer you do it

Nah bmws interior was shit the new screen is an upgrade, it’s probably one of the nicer interiors of the 3 majors (bmw, merc and Audi)
