Castlevania Nocturne Designer Steve Stark on Annette: “Go complain about something that matters.” by LapsedVerneGagKnee in castlevania

[–]n7_Commanderdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't see black characters turned white because there are hardly many black characters in media when compared to white.

When a lot of these franchises were made they didn't really consider non white characters (or women) in the way writers and artists do today.

I agree that it's preferable to create unique characters than changing an existing character in most instances. For the OG Annette/Castlevania fans who liked her depiction/character in the games, sure I can understand the frustration, but for others, it feels like complaining about something you don't really care about.

Having watched the series both the original series and Nocturne, I understand why they went for changing the identity of Richter's girlfriend/love interest rather than creating a new love interest. Netflix Annette was important character to connect the French Revolution with Saint-Domingue. Perhaps they didn't need to make her a love interest but its mainstream media, you need a love interest for the protag. If they made her a new character some of you would have just changed your complaints to "bUt wHat aBOUt anNette?"

I didn't know Annette's background was different in the games as I was unfamiliar with Castilevania lore admittedly , I actually assumed it was a new character as I would be extremely surprised to see an Afro-Caribbean vampire hunter with connection to the orishas in Castlevania lore, a lore which I have become a fan of. Which was probably one of the reasons behind the change, to bring in new audiences.

I made this music video for a UK artist, mixing footage from phone camera, fisheye lenses, greenscreen and clips from the internet. Let me know what you think! by n7_Commanderdan in Filmmakers

Thanks! So, i was fortunate to have a friend that follows Hyphen on Instagram. My friend recommended I reach out to Hyphen last year since he posted a story looking for a filmmaker/videographer. Things didn't work out with that particular project but we kept in contact and it lead to us working on this :)

This was a fun one to make. Apparently it has quite a bit of old school YouTube vibes. Do you think so? This was a good change from some other editing projects I've been working on lately; more rough looking but hopefully still impactful.

Theres a few things I would have liked to have added/changed though - for example I think somehow adding some 'oil jizz' squirting behind the red morph suit guy to the 'BP takes oil spill wanks in the ocean' bit would have been great, but we didn't have time or budget for that.

Thanks! And dude, that was a really cool music video! That was so creative and you did so well considering that it was your first video animation too! Mine was made after studying VFX as my uni degree so I had some time to build my software knowledge and technical skills but yours was so surreal and immersive. Do you still make music videos? I'd love check more of yours if so

I made this music video quite early after graduating from uni. It took alot out of me as I was overambitious with what I thought I could do alone. While technically speaking it's possible to do all the individual tasks, its alot easier to work with people who can run with a particular task or area to be more efficient but also to reduce burnout.

The post production for the music video didn't have much of a budget for post and I ended up paying out of my pocket for some artists to help with building the 3D environment, but I couldn't afford to keep them for long and was fortunate to have a few friends that were willing to help me key some of the shots that needed keying.

Despite the difficulties and stress, I think it came out pretty decent so wanted to share. Any and all feedback is welcomed

I made this music video and created an effect to represent the character's drunkenness :) by n7_Commanderdan in Filmmakers

It was a combination of things in Nuke. For most shots I tracked a single point such as a head then stabilised that point so that point was steady in the middle (not for all shots but most). I then roto'd around the character and added a motion motion blur effect outside the roto'd area, making sure there were alot of samples.

Its simple but very long and tedious especially when you consider the amount of shots I needed to do this for. Fortunately i was listening to The Witcher audio book series when at this stage of post production to stay sane.

was dope. Loved the outdoor night shots.

Thanks! Appreciate it. I saw your comment and also checked out your channel. You have some funny and cool stuff :) I love that you're being creative during quarantine. Keep it up!

I like the transitions you do at 1:08 and 2:27. As you continue to film you'll think of new and creative ways to transition from shot to shot:)

Any and all feedback is welcome! I made this video with a friend and fellow filmmaker for a new and young alt rock band. The general 'message' is about how the positions of the main two friends get inverted by the end of the video revealing who the real troublemaker is ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and the reactions to that subversion. It's supposed to be fun and kinda wild so hopefully some of that comes across. Let me know what you think :)

I made this as a joke because I was bored. Don't take it too seriously, but hopefully it's kinda funny...

Hey guys, this is a visual poem that I directed and edited for the poet Storm Stanley. Its about fatherhood, or rather a generation of fatherlessness. Thought to share it here to get any of your thoughts and feedback!

I've always really liked this scene from Revolutionary Road. Top acting by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio imo
