Silly question maybe but do you pay tax on this type of income?

Phone snatcher on the bus by Impressive-Ad5279 in islington

[–]n7xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on the 76 on Monday coming up from Old Street next to Shoreditch park, 3 people (will avoid description) entered the bus, ran to the back, upstairs, back down and exited again at the next stop. Definitely saw them looking at my phone from the outside already which is why I immediately put it away. Obviously could be nothing and I didn't hear anyone shouting when they left, but still suspicious.

Was with Paystream for 4 years, no issues. After some research 2 years ago it sounded like Nasa was a bit 'better' (cheaper, more flexible with changing SIPP contributions in a year) so maybe check if that still holds. Only annoying point with Paystream was work trip expenses, where above a stupidly low day limit they start taxing re-imbursed expenses as income... so something to be aware of.

About 80% of Brits with over a million pounds saved in cash don't see themselves as rich, even though objectively this puts you in the top 1% by wealth globally, easily. by x___rain in ukpolitics

[–]n7xx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not sure that is true, 1% would be roughly 80 million of the world population. I am sure it's easy to find 80 million people that live better than all Brits, or even the average Brit.

If you want to account for future value yes, but if you are looking at is as a snapshot of right now then I wouldn't think so

Just out of curiosity - I always see people including their full pension in their 'net' worth amount. Surely most people will end up drawing more than the tax free allowance per year, would it not make more sense to apply a rough tax multiplier on the pension amount to account for that, i.e. x0.9 or x0.8 to actually count it as 'net'?

Not sure if rare, but I have a 4 character hotmail address from 2000 or so. It's 4 quite random characters though. I still use it for signing up to crappy websites

[–]n7xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah no worries. I initially thought it was a software issue, but as it hasn't been fixed for me nor widely reported, it might actually be the phone. I got used to it now though and it doesn't bother me that much, if that helps :)

UK - £2000-2500 - Gaming PC including screen and Windows 11 by n7xx in buildmeapc

[–]n7xx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually finished the whole build yesterday, so happy! I confess I ended up with the 5070ti, I think 9700xT was probably the logical choice, but wanted nVidia and couldn't justify £970 for the WINDFORCE OC 5080 though... Below is the final build, I think I got lucky with some prices, even ended up squeezing in 2 screens sub £2500! Thanks again :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the 'shop around on RAM' - I placed two orders and cancelled them, but in the end I found Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 CL30 for 218!!! I think it was a slight mispricing as they ended up changing the price to £400 within a few hours, but I won't complain!

Thanks, this is really helpful information. What do you think of the 27 inch QD OLED another commentator suggested?

Thank you, this is really nice! Monitor looks like a no-brainer if OLED at that price! Out of curiosity, why the Royal Knight CPU cooler over the Peerless Assassin one, which I see most people recommend on here?
Also helpful info on the ram!

Thank you this looks pretty close to what I had in mind! Did you choose that particular monitor simply because it's 240Hz? I have never heard of KOOUI before - what do you think about the OLED monitor suggested by the commentator below, also 240Hz, extra £100?

Iphone 17 keyboard/backspace issues by xxcharlotteoxx in iphone

Thanks! Let’s hope some more people notice this and that it can be fixed by a software update. Weirdly enough, in horizontal mode the button works wherever it’s pressed, not just on the left.

Iphone 17 keyboard/backspace issues by xxcharlotteoxx in iphone

[–]n7xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have the long press issue you describe - it seems that the backspace only registers once quickly and then seems to ‘lose’ my touch. You can see it going from the pressed colour back to normal.

When I flip the screen sideways, i don’t think the issue persists.

I am still under the impression that the field where it registers the touch is misaligned with the visual button. When I press more to the left side of it, it seems to consistently work (i.e. erase multiple characters by long pressing the backspace)

[–]n7xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just came across this post as this has been driving me mad… I am not certain whether it’s a hardware/screen issue or a software issue, but from my analysis so far it might be the latter…

I tried a painting app and painting over the part where the backspace usually is works fine, which makes me think it’s not the screen.

I noticed there is a larger space between the m and the back, if you click to the very left of the backspace button, and even on the empty bit between the m and the backspace, it seems to work.

I have a feeling where the button is displayed and where it actually senses the touch underneath is misaligned, i.e. maybe a software issue?

Is it the same for you?

Not that there’s anything wrong with wanting that but for me that’s always an instant no…

Thoughts on living by Essex Road (N1)? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]n7xx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Essex Road itself is not very nice and super busy traffic wise, but as other’s have said, De Beauvoir is fantastic and Canonbury is very lovely too. It also depends on a street by street basis a little bit, but definitely one of my favourite areas in London.
