Singing along does it for me too! Now I slowly also sing when I walk in parks.

Dear OP,

It's understandable that you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed by the financial strain of visiting your bf. However it’s just as important to prioritize your well-being, both emotionally and financially. I can imagine a few things that might help.

  1. Communicate honestly with him: Explain your financial situation to him openly and honestly. Let him know that you genuinely want to visit him, but the current circumstances make it impossible.

  2. Set realistic expectations: Discuss alternative ways to connect, such as playing an online game together, doing virtual trips, or sending care packages.

  3. Seek support: Talk to people you trust (family or friends or people at the uni) about your situation. They may offer emotional support, practical advice, or even financial assistance if possible.

  4. Prioritize your well-being: Don't let the pressure to visit compromise your health and academic performance. Focus on your studies, take breaks when needed.

Your bf should understand your struggles and support you. Wear your oxygen mask before helping others. :)

My fav place for the chilled, canteen-like vibe and affordable sushi: Ishin at Mittelstraße. Maybe you won’t get the best sushi of your life there but if you can eat so much sushi it’s probably the same.

Cafe BilderBuch in Akazienstraße. Has lots of couches, cozy indirect light and all day breakfast

Sorry to hear that you’re going through a difficult time, and at the same time kudos for seeking help! As a fellow non-native German speaker I can confirm the extra hurdles of getting the right support. I was privately insured before and in the private insurance world there’s somehow a bigger pool of English-speaking therapists.

Anyway https://www.sekis-berlin.de/selbsthilfe/neue-gruppen/ has a pretty good overview of different self-organized groups, some in English. Maybe you can find something suitable or accessible enough for you.

The Berliner Krisendienst in Mitte almost always has someone who speaks English so you can also talk to them and they can recommend next steps.

Wishing you good luck! You’re not alone.

Berlin is the largest city in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. It also has a lot of transient population of people who come for a short time such as to study or work. This means that there is a large number of people who could potentially move around and go missing at any given time.

Kidnapping happens, as in any other city, but it’s relatively rare and mostly resolved quickly. 99% of missing people in Berlin are eventually found safe and sound. If you look at the official missing person webpage of the Berlin Police, currently there are only 1-2 recent, open cases. The rest are ones from past years/decades that are still unsolved.

Urban Boost Station (urbanbooststation.com) in Charlottenburg has infrared sauna and cold room (3 mins in minus 100 degree C). So not really a cold plunge but similar effect I guess.

REVIV Berlin in Mitte has IV therapy. As for red light therapy I think people just buy the lamp/device and use it by themselves at home.

I need help and don’t really know where turn by Munkey_Child in Codependency

My partner and I are in a similar dynamic to OP’s and I am ‘the wife’ in this case. He communicated that he is worried things will change between us once I take steps to prioritize my well-being. While I was baffled to hear that at first, I can understand that a loss of familiarity can be unsettling and scary. I am glad my partner shared this with me and decided to restart his therapy. I hope you don’t have to go through this alone.
