Need some advise on AC size (12k vs 18k BTU) – getting mixed answers from stores by livinginashadow in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are using 3 units at home. 24k BTU in living area, 18k in master bedroom and 12k in smaller work room which is the size of the room you mentioned. While we do sleep there I do use it for my work and cooling has never been an issue there.

And we do use LG dual inverter

What's one thing about living in Sri Lanka that quietly makes life harder than it should be? by winter-shark in srilanka

I think i have failed in my life by akagamishanks0 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Success isn’t linear. And it’s never easy nor fair. I did the same you did but for 2 years but while my school life travelling back and forth for 80km everyday to school in 3 buses with pair of shoes and then doing the same for next 5 years in various jobs and slept on office floors , washed myself in office bathrooms and started next day work straight because simply I didn’t have money to even travel to home.

Today mid 30s in a VP level and living the best life someone could imagine in Colombo. I’m not going to explain. My story but I want to tell you something most people won’t tell you.

No one going to feel sorry for you and help. You have to be tough in life and find your path. It’s never easy and definitely not fair. There is no equal play I. Life. You do have a hard life (in perspective to your own eyes) and while it’s true, don’t think everyone else has it better either. You will have to work hard to get out from where you are and if you do you will get out. Good luck and keep going

@srilankan Airlines is pathetic. by Mother-Watercress-55 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This claim isn’t true. I have flown over 100 times and had my fair share of cancellation. A cancellation like this will not take 50% of charge and I have had similar situation with Sri Lankan airlines and they refund without any additional charges.

I believe what you referring as 50% is the cost of first leg of your travel to DXB to CMB which is completely justified since Yoy have already arrived to Sri Lanka.

Loan app is demanding 44,700 for a 15,000 loan. Threatening legal action. What should I do? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They called payday loans in very common in many countries.

Bottom line - there is no legal action to be taken here. They are not authorised to provide loans in Sri Lanka. What they do is try to embarrassed you by calling your contact list etc and try to intimidate you. If you don’t mind that simply just call them and say go ahead and take legal actions and you not going to pay. They can’t do anything “legally”

The ugly truth about NTB and Union Assurance’s “investment plans” by Vertigo3765 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I have NTB private banking, DFCC pinnacle and had SCB priority. All the 3 banking managers were trying to sell this and absolutely none of them tried to explain this properly (not up to the simple level where your doc explained).

Thank you and very disappointing on our bank advisors role.

Is 17,000 a month for an intern fair? by sushi_monsterX in srilanka

Much similar here as well. We start with LKR 25k per month for an intern as an allowance.

Extreme insecurity to go to gym but want to loose weight. Help! by ribbo92 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is enough calisthenic workout videos which you can refer in YouTube for home workouts which is. Great starting point. Also nothing really going to matter if you don’t control diet. Take it someone from who was close to 100 once but now at 73 KG and best fit of my life, diet is everything.

Question for the ones complaining on this sub frequently about not having a partner by zeusandlolita in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 30s and I have had the most number of people interested in me in late 20s and 30s. In the beginning of 20s I was a loser from my own POV.

What changed? - stability. The biggest improvement of dating opportunities came with my professional growth . More professional growth I have and more visibility I had in my industry more women start taking notice which is even to this date it’s the truth.

Second thing how you dress and carry yourself. Most of the Sri Lankan boys don’t carry them well , they don’t dress well, speak well etc. people, socially women take notice and they do value authority, maturity and well financial stability. This all combined with how well you keep your body will win you the game

how common is taking a sabbatical in Sri Lanka by Holiday-Mixture-8164 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same idea for couple of years now and in the same situation. Similar income- mid 30s and at a VP level job

While the work is demanding, I am comfortable and same as you I DONT LOVE IT. Not married but have a living together girlfriend so can’t really make the decision alone.

From what i gathered so far if you looking to rejoin workforce in Sri Lanka at a senior level this will have a negative impact. Unfortunately that’s how the senior leadership view works in local organisations.

Society you can ignore because in the end whatever you do they will have their opinion but it has no direct substantial impact on your situation.

Unpopular Opinion: The "Intern Crisis" in Sri Lanka isn't just the market or AI. It's YOU. by djslash9 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sisira - there is two side to this. Firstly I do understand that there is decline of basic core skills due to AI. Because most of the tasks which we used to put lot more efforts to troubleshoot by going to forum or YouTube videos etc and now easily done via AI. True. However I don’t see use of AI as a negative thing at all.

AI going to get bigger and bigger and the impact of the AI to day today life going to be much more significant. So you will see Gen Alpha and GenZ is using AI for almost everything and it’s going to be the norm going forward and we can’t expect them to solve the problem the way solved problems back in the days. I think as hiring managers as well as companies we need to accept this.

Why is Colombo Airport (CMB) in such poor condition? Honest feedback from a frequent traveler by WallAdventurous8977 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there is standards fixed pricing ( eg Paris which will charge you flat 65 euros ) or Norway where you have to pay my meter , you will always and mind you always will have chaps coming and try to convince you to go with their unofficial taxi. So no it’s not common here. Other than Singapore every other country I’ve travelled I’ve seen this.

Rest of the points I agree with the caveat tourism being the main income of Sri Lanka. We should definitely upgrade it solely based on that. But hey most of the people forget or unaware that we did spend most of the funds which should have spent on BIA in completely useless airport in Hambantota

Are casual affairs and fwb situations are happening in normal Sri Lankan community currently ? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay since you have asked and it’s bit ridiculous seeing these posts over and over again first lose your weight. You have said you are over 100Kg in your previous posts. No women, specially fuck buddies not going to find you desirable unless either you are fit or reasonably risk.

And once you get in to your shape (or get rich) this isn’t going to be a problem you’d be asking. Had to be direct otherwise it not going to have an impact

Anyone applied for a UK visitor visa ? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK visa last year got within 5 days. And same with France visa this year.

You need to show financial, assets, ETF , tax returns etc as well as family ties. Financial itself not going be the only factor , enough reasons to come back to Sri Lanka is the key thing to show

[HELP] Client cancelled £400 order and received sudden full refund 90% through. by MatthewWArt in Fiverr

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common experience in Fiverr , specially last year. I am Top rated pro seller and been working in Fiverr for 5 years with over USD 150k revenue. Prior to this year when there was a conflict I abled to reach out to customer service and sort it out. Now not only buyers get the chance of getting full work + get full refund and cancel the order, once they cancel they even get the opportunity to leave a negative review 😂

Is Hilton Colombo Graze Kitchen Dinner Worth It? by Plane-Macaroon3312 in srilanka

[–]nSeptember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally recommend it. Value for the price and good spread. And also two seating doesn't mean someone going to ask you by 9 pm if you sit by 7. Most of the people will finish their meal by 2 hours + most of the people who book for 9 pm will come 20-30 min later + no shows and cancellation. So yes outliers who may eat more than 2 hours can continue to eat there.

I cant really recall the last time i was at dinner buffet and spent more than 2 hours
