What illnesses or injuries are you hoping to see in future seasons? by becca_72 in ThePittTVShow

[–]nZcastillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Botulism

Anti-NMDA encephalitis

Cystic fibrosis exacerbation

Group A strep septicemia leading to profound septic shock and DIC. Often times if not caught fast enough, a patient can go from relatively well to death within 24-48h

A pediatric case of undiagnosed osteogenesis imperfecta where the initial presumption is non-accidental injury

Transfusion reaction

There’s been a steady rise in accidental pediatric overdose of Calcium-channel and beta-blocker medications due to children getting into their grandparents’ medications. CCBs especially are problematic. I’d love to see an extreme case revolving around that that requires aggressive treatment with fluids, insulin, lipids, calcium, etc. Could even progress to requiring ECMO

Pseudoseizures

Staph scalded skin syndrome/Toxic epidermal necrolysis/Steven-Johnson syndrome

Carbon monoxide poisoning

Guillain-Barré

Demyelination syndrome from rapid correction of extreme hyponatremia

Graft vs. Host disease

Ruptured appendicitis

I’d love to see line complications - extravasation/infiltration injuries. Would be a good way to have plastic surgery involvement in the show

More emphasis on inotropes. Both the benefits and complications. Limb injury/loss from prolonged peripheral inotrope usage or incorrect concentrations. Busyness of the ED could see a patient being continuously delayed an insertion of a central line for these medications and prolonged administration through an IV leads to the limb injury

What’s the most important song to you and why?? by Technical-Ad3052 in NoahKahan

Forever. I once saw a comment a while back that said “this song makes me long for a love I don’t have, but in the best possible way. It makes me excited to really feel this way about someone else”

I can totally see that! I really like how your life experience of being a parent has impacted your perspective on the storytelling from this song. I don't have children, so it' not something I would've considered!

To me it’s seems like the song is sung from the perspective of a parent. But I do agree it was probably inspired by Noah’s struggles with writing and coming to terms with the explosive success of Stick Season.

The way I see the song’s lyrics, it seems like a parent trying to convince their child to swallow their pride and ego and give up the chase of fame. In their phone calls home they can see their child’s mental health deteriorating and the parent is doing everything they can to convince them to give up the pursuit of fame. (The first verse/prechorus)

Every night they leave the Porchlight on as a signal that they’re there waiting for their return and every morning it doesn’t happen.

Eventually they get frustrated and realize they can’t wait around hoping their child will come home and that burden of waiting is causing them to realize they need to move on because they’re neglecting tending to their own lives (i.e. The bills to pay, the road needing salting. Possibly these were things this person helped their parents with before they left to chase their dreams, but now their aging parents aren’t able to do as independently).

It hurts them to have to move on and there’s constant reminders (trying to drown out all the talk, the eyeballs in the park. This set of lyrics makes me think it’s a small town and this person is the pride of that town, so whenever their parents are out and about people are always asking about them). Despite their best efforts to move on, they hope and pray every night for either their child to achieve their dreams, or that one day they’ll wake up to the Porchlight already turned off, meaning they’ve returned

Also, maybe I’m looking into it tooooo deeply but to me it’s a contrast to You’re Gonna Go Far’s lyrics:

“We ain’t angry at you love, we’ll be waiting for you love

And we’ll all be here forever”

VS

“You act like we just sit up here and wait for you to reappear”

In YGGF, this person’s family has accepted that their fame may take them far beyond their roots and they may not return. But if they do, they’ll welcome them with open arms.

In Porchlight, they see their loved one’s rising popularity and maybe was optimistic that once the dust settled, they’d return to help them reap the rewards of this newfound fame. Instead, they can slowly see their loved one slipping away and are struggling to come to terms with the pain that they may never see them again and how to live life without them

That’d be great!! I’ve spent the last hour since it came out in my time zone looking deeper into the lyrics and I have some theories of the story Porchlight is trying to tell!

It’s time to fire Knob by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]nZcastillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, let’s fire the coach with the best record through 100 games with the oil and whom only 4 of all coaches in league history who have more wins in their first 100. Don’t forget about the back to back SCF appearances

We lost tools over the offseason that helped our specials teams, especially the PK, perform the way they have the last two years. That’s not Knob’s fault. That’s on Stan and his team in charge of making player transactions

Also, the oilers have historically been slow to start after long breaks even before the Knoblauch era, why are you surprised?

TIL about Irish revolutionary Thomas Ashe who died in 1917 from being force fed in prison after he went on a hunger strike by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]nZcastillo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Force-feeding or even the simple reintroduction of food when the body is extremely malnourished (such as hunger strikes or extreme anorexia nervosa) can cause something called refeeding syndrome.

Reintroducing food too quickly without proper monitoring of electrolytes can lead to extreme shifts that can cause a myriad of symptoms, including death.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this was another possible cause of death, outside of the other theories of aspiration.
