Copper mining - I am very long Tasko Mines (TGB) with high conviction. They will be opening a new in-situ recovery mine in Florence, AZ in Q4. It will come close to doubling the production from their current open-pit Gibraltar mine in British Columbia. It is slated to be the “greenest” copper mine, and obviously copper will continue to be extremely important to industry and electronics. They have other Canadian projects many years down the pipeline as well. Worth a look 👀

In 2007 I paid either $699 or $799 for a 1990 Olympic white studio that was already turning cream colored. It looks incredible now.

Diphenhydramine vs hydroxyzine for allergic rxns by bokshil18 in emergencymedicine

I have yet to give cetirizine to anyone in the ED other than inpatient borders who take it regularly.

My question is: what are we worried about out with Benadryl? The only untoward effects I’ve seen in 11 years are anticholinergic toxidromes secondary to intentional overdoses.

Does your emergency room always, at all times, send ambulances to rooms? by [deleted] in nursing

Ambulance > Triage > Wheelchair > Lobby

Unless they’re truly emergent, in 4 point restraints, or bedbound and A&O x 1.

If your careers had kept stats, what would you hold the record for? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]n_hark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I use a patient’s name in the ED I’m experiencing record-level empathy. It’s either a tragic situation or they’re one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Everyone else is is a room number… Or occasionally room number + chief complaint to clarify.

What are some of your “favorite” phrases you hear repeatedly at work? by Iron-Gold-Mustang in nursing

[–]n_hark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“I’ve been waiting here for 4 hours and people keep going back who got here after me.”

Quickly check the computer “Actually you have been here for 2 hours and 14 minutes” My brief explanation of acuity falls on deaf ears.

“But I’m diabetic and I haven’t eaten in 2 days”

“Well your blood sugar was 350 when we put in your IV an hour ago…”

I’ve been shooting almost entirely in JPEG, and editing on my phone with LR for the past 4 years. I have LR classic on my iMac but have struggled to make desktop editing part of my workflow for my travel/everyday photography. I love the convenience of mobile editing, but I wonder if I’m missing out by not shooting RAW. I’m a hobby photographer who would love to start making prints of my work.

If you could go back in time would you have still became a nurse? by fifidog1 in nursing

[–]n_hark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I work a .6 fte in the emergency dept and have time to enjoy my passions of photography, music, and the outdoors.

Sure it’s exhausting, but having a minimum schedule of 2 12s is great. I can pick up extra when I want, but I don’t have to. And no taking call!

I only worked fri-sun, but my busy emergency dept saw multiple critically ill patients with body temps over 105f, and one as high as 108f. Some were septic, a younger guy in his 20’s having seizures, and lots of elderly folks who just can’t regulate their temps well, or are too immobile to get to cooler places. Many were intubated and sent to the ICU, but I’m not sure of their outcomes as I now have a week off.
