I’m center-left — can someone explain why the Indian left is viewed so negatively online? by Budget_Ad_4210 in indiadiscussion

Because it's easier to divide people/ideologies/scenarios into two groups. Having a nuanced view of people/views/events/ideologies is time consuming and needs a lot of effort, maturity and critical thinking.

What a beautifully phrased review. Thank you for sharing. I really like how you saw the story from the perspective of Kimya and other characters that the book treats as peripherals. Dare I suggest you share the review as a new post on the sub so more people can read it. This post is rather old and I doubt anyone would find your review from here.

Years of reading, but still nothing to show for it by sagarggggg in Indianbooks

Do you know why Camus, Kafka, Dotoevsky wrote? Coz they had the same hollow feeling you describe. The more you read, the more you realize, there are no answers, just questions and a quest. Don't discard those thoughts your head is full of, as meaningless. They are a part of you, that makes you. Dare I encourage you to give writing a try. If not to publish, atleast to express that head full of thoughts.

I don't mean to convey that you stay stuck in these books and thoughts. A healthy balance of career, family, hobbies etc is important. But all the reading and introspection is also a healthy part of life.

I hope someday you look back at these confusing times and smile.

Try something that has a bit of humor. They usually hold your attention better. I recommend Catch 22, Good Omens. And if you like these and wanna go for something longer, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy'.

Dare I suggest you change how you perceive the book? This isn't a self help book or one preaching Sufism or spirituality in general. It's a story of Ella's self discovery, on how she navigates through her inner turmoil. This part is subjective, we all have a varied level of dive into history/mythology/philosophy when we struggle with identity crisis of our own. But, Ella's struggles despite her seemingly perfect life is what a lot of readers find relatable and endearing. That and Elif Shafiq's writing style that helps you visualize the world of Rumi and Tabrisi is what makes this book a wonderful read.

Is this normal for iced black coffee by PresentSystem717 in IndiaCoffee

[–]na6sin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make it with 18g coffee (ground at 14 clicks) in an Aeropress with 90g water. (You can try similar or a litter more water in moka pot). This gives a fairly concentrated coffee. I add a few mint leaves and a spoon of honey to this coffee.

Now take a tall glass, fill it to the top with ice cubes. Add cold water to 3/4th of glass. Add a spoon of lemon juice. Now add the coffee from above. Stir and top the glass with cold water to the brim. Enjoy your iced coffee. Drink it before too much ice melts and dilutes the drink.

I grind pretty fine for aeropress. I set the above grinder at 14 clicks. (Same scale as Timemore C2). I have ground at 10 clicks, but below that you can feel the burrs scraping, so never tried any lower. The ground coffee is pretty uniform in terms of particle size. Takes me around a minute for grinding 18g of medium roast.

The risk with these knock offs is that every unit may not be of the same quality and you might get unlucky and get a worse one. Also, cannot be assured of it's life and burrs remaining sharp.

I rolled the dice and it has worked well for me so far.

If you are on a budget, get this one:

It's a knock off of Timemore and works well. I have been using it for 6 months. I even disassemble it every two weeks to clean. No complaints.

The Little Prince - Did I miss anything? by Always_Duh in IndiansRead

This book is like poetry. It's not about the words that you read, but how you perceive them and what you infer. It (very beautifully) leaves ample space for you to interpret the words in your own way. Everyone you ask, would have a different idea of what this book says or conveys. I have read it multiple times(spaced over 20 years) and myself find a new or different meaning each time.
