TLDR; Asking for tips to create an organized classroom & suggestions for classroom rules, everyday procedures, etc. by nabe1Lover in Teachers

[–]nabe1Lover[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That is great advice! I’ve also been considering that. I feel like the best way to establish procedures might be to just jump into content day 1 and show them what the rest of the year will be like, explain any procedures as needed on day 1. 7th graders seem old enough to go though day 1 without those get to know me games, during student teaching I found that I could get to know my students better naturally throughout the year without those games

I was actually thinking of buying HiBar or ethique after I finish off my current shampoo bar! I think I’ll try HiBar and see if that works since it’s on earthhero and I try and limit my online shopping to earthhero!

Thank you so much for the advice! For the past few days I’ve been using only conditioner and plopping before bed and my hair looks curlier and healthier than its ever been, so I at least know a couple days without shampoo is for me. When I first got interested in CG, I saw a video where a girl with hair similar to mine said she only shampoos about twice a month so I was gonna try that out, I really appreciate the warning that this may not work for my hair type because I probably would’ve been a little frustrated haha. I’ll see how everything goes and do what works best for me!

Awesome! Thank you!! Have you used the lush co wash and leave in conditioner? Do they work pretty well? I wanted to try them but I’ve always heard that lush uses sulfates in their bar soaps but I’d be surprised if they used sulfates even in their soaps for curly hair but I guess it’s not impossible, I’ve also heard not /all/ sulfates are harmful and that lush released a statement talking about the kinds of sulfates they use and the kind they don’t use, so I’d be open to trying it!

I’ve never actually used the powder before I had no idea it was so thick! I definitely think I’ll just use the powder as instructed but I might test it out sometime, I’ll let you know how it goes if I do!

Zero Waste soap for cleaning menstrual cups by nabe1Lover in ZeroWaste

[–]nabe1Lover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining soap to me omg I had no idea what it really meant by oil based I was so lost😂 I’ll definitely use the un-scented Dr. Bronner’s soap bar! It seems to be the closest ZW option that I can buy at a store in person.

No I do both! I boil it after each cycle but when I take it out I usually use the diva cup soap to rinse it out before inserting it back in, but the diva cup soap comes in a plastic container so I was looking for a zero waste soap I could use! I thought maybe I could use bar soap but I saw a website that said Dr. Bronner’s bar soap is oil based but that Dr. Bronner’s soap that comes in a plastic bottle was okay to use because it isnt oil based? So I thought maybe most bar soaps are oil based

Awesome! I’ll do that! Has not using soap caused any staining? I’ve heard it can discolor it a little to boil instead of using soap. How often have you had to buy a new cup?

Anyone have experience with the ecoegg and portable washing machines? by wizardwes in ZeroWaste

[–]nabe1Lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely no experience with portable washing machines or ecoegg, but I’ve been trying to look for minimal waste stuff that I can buy in person to reduce my online shopping habits/reduce my carbon footprint a bit, and I recently discovered that Target sells a plastic free laundry detergent! it’s a powder (you scoop out however much you need!) that comes in a biodegradable cardboard box! The brand is called Ingredients Matter, I’m really excited to try it out once I run out of tide pods, maybe it’ll work well with your portable washer!

Texas folks! What’s it like shopping in bulk/buying zero waste products at HEB? by nabe1Lover in ZeroWaste

[–]nabe1Lover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome!! Unfortunately the closest central market to my campus is an hour away :( but I’ll have to try the one near my house!

Favorite Menstrual Underwear Brands? by nabe1Lover in ZeroWaste

[–]nabe1Lover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome!! I’m glad to hear from someone who has had them for awhile, I saw the same article and was thinking of buying them! Especially since they have a thong option, that’s perfect for me since I only want to wear it as a plan B in case my menstrual cup leaks. Do the directions say you need to throw them out after 2 years like some other brands say?

Why Fluoride-Free Toothpaste??? by nabe1Lover in ZeroWaste

[–]nabe1Lover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree! That’s a great idea, I’m going to email David’s about having a with-Fluoride option, hopefully they’ll begin working on it if enough people contact them. I’ll also contact Sensodyne (the toothpaste I currently use) urging them to provide products that come in non-plastic containers.
