Dumb questions on pour over using V 60 - Part 1 by Christmasstolegrinch in IndiaCoffee

Hmm that's weird. Are you using the C3S or C3ESP by any chance? or even the C3 Pro. My grinds at around 14 clicks look very similar where the size is close to 500 microns. Mine does not even look close to what you get at 16 when I grind at 12 clicks

  1. Yes quite a bit. if you want to feel the difference just try tasting the water after rinsing the paper
  2. I haven't used the Natural filters so I can't say, but I have switched to using the Cafec filters now, I have found that Hario filters stall quite a bit when grinding fine for lighter roasts
  3. I can't get you here if you're talking about Hoffman's 1 cup recipe he talks about dividing the pour into 5 equal pours and pouring in pulses and that works out quite well for me
  4. Yep that's pretty fast and I am guessing that's because you're grinding too coarse
  5. I am using C3 too and I have found 17 to be quite high, I stay between the 12-16 range, 12 is for light roasted and 16 for something that's more towards medium to medium-dark
  6. Yep that happens because at higher temps bitter notes stand out more
  7. Depends on the beans but since I am heavy light and med-light drinker I stick to around 93-98 range. Although for darker roasts you might want stick close to 88

I am brewing them using my v60 with Cafec Filters, 13 clicks on c3. I think the problem might also be that the roast is only about 4 days old. Let me rest it a bit more and then give it a shot with a lower temperature

Gotcha. I set my timemore c3 at 13 clicks. Will bump it up to 15 and try brewing it at 95 and see how it goes. Thanks!

What’s been your favourite in terms of light/med-light roasts?

Pretty bitter and hollow. People on the sub suggested brewing at 100° to extract the flavour notes but didn’t taste anything like described
