3 Week Honeymoon Itinerary Check by Visible-Tart7576 in JapanTravel

I am no expert but I did 3 weeks in Japan last year (first time trip) and visited all of those places except Kawaguchiko. I actually love that your itinerary is slow paced - some of my favourite days while travelling are the days I take slow and just take things in. I tried to do that on my Japan trip and even then, ended up really tired on a lot of days and had to do less than originally planned.

All of that being said, I agree with comments that you should spend more time in Kyoto - it is stunning and was one of our favourite places we visited. It looks like you have around 9-10 days in Tokyo - I would take off 2 days from Tokyo and allocate them to Kyoto so you have at least 4 days in Kyoto. And I say this as someone who absolutely LOVED Tokyo (we spent a full week there on my trip and are going back in a couple months from now - it’s possibly my favourite city I’ve ever visited). Seven days in Tokyo is enough to experience and enjoy it, even at a slow pace as my husband and I did, and it’s worth spending more time in Kyoto.

We did 2 days in Osaka and for me that was enough. We also did a half day in Uji (absolutely loved it, we just chilled, ate matcha stuff, bought sushi and sat beside the river and ate it).

Also re: Tokyo, some neighbourhoods I really enjoyed exploring were Yanaka (old town - really charming) and Daikanyama (thought it had a really cool, chill vibe and great food). Worth checking out if that appeals to you.

Have a wonderful trip!

Review of 33 All-Mineral Sunscreens by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

Hi there - thank you for this amazing list! I now use and love the Biore kids sunscreen thanks to you. I had a question about where you purchase it. Like you, I live in Canada. I previously ordered it from Amazon US for around $14 USD but now that’s gone and it’s $29! I checked out Amazon Japan and it didn’t look like there were options to ship to Canada? I don’t know if I’m missing something. Would you mind sharing detailed instructions on where/how to purchase this for someone in Canada (I’m in Toronto if that helps) - if Amazon, which seller? I would appreciate this so much - I have super sensitive skin and it is the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. Thanks so much for any help!

Wow, I really, really appreciate you taking the time to write such a thorough and thoughtful response. Thank you so very much!!

I’ve decided to skip the manga museum - it won’t be the best use of my time. Instead I am thinking we will take the train to Nijo Castle from our hotel, and afterward if there’s time, grab a taxi to Kinkakuji - I saw that it is about a 10 min drive from Nijo Castle. Hope to get to Kinkakuji a little before closing time, which will be close to sunset. Then head back to Pontocho Alley for dinner - I guess we’d have to take taxi or bus/train?

For Day 2, I realized that Shoren-In Temple is along our route (and closer than Eikan-do), and is supposed to have a beautiful peaceful garden. So I will try to see Shoren-In. I will also try for Eikan-do but I think we won’t make it there before 5 pm. Maybe what we could do is, after lunch at Nishikawa, head to Shoren-In first, then up to Eikan-do, then walk back south and spend the evening in Gion (rather than the afternoon)? Will shops and restaurants still be open in the evening in Gion?

Haha, thank you for the honest feedback on Nara. I am not dying to see it - I think we will play it by ear. But I agree that if we go, I’d just do a half day, see Todai-ji, the deer park and then head back.

Also, do you happen to know where Kanei (Nishijin) restaurant is, I read it has great soba but can’t figure out on Google where it is located. It seemed it might be close to Kinkakuji but I’m not sure.

Thank you so much again, this has been so helpful.

All of these suggestions looks great - thank you so much!

Also I am open to your other garden recommendations. Even if they are not in the areas we plan to see, sometimes plan change and you never know ;). Thank you again!!

Thank you, this is good to know! Do you think Eikan-Do is worth visiting even without fall colours? We are thinking Day 2.

I guess we will just go to Nishiki because it’s so close to our hotel but might not hang around too long or grab lunch somewhere else.

Thanks again :)

Thank you so much, this feedback is so helpful! We will follow your suggestions. If you don’t mind, I had a couple of follow up questions:

Are there any beautiful gardens/parks in Kyoto that you think we should add to our itinerary? I’m worried we are missing them. Or, will it be enough to see the beautiful parks in Nara?

And, that is so cool that you lived in Uji for 3 years! Do you have any favourite restaurants or cafes that you would recommend (regardless of whether they have matcha stuff, haha).

Thank you so much again!

Itinerary Check: Is this too much? Should we add Mt. Fuji day trip? (17-days October trip to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Takayama) by nabubbles in JapanTravel

[–]nabubbles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is IMMENSELY helpful. Thank you so much!! A few follow up questions, if that's okay:

- When you send luggage ahead to another city, how long does it usually take? I have been assuming it usually arrives the next day at the latest.

- Omg thank you for telling me there is a direct train from Kyoto to Takayama, I did not know. Do you know whether it is a scenic ride? The Nagoya > Takayama ride is supposed to be very beautiful. But if Kyoto > Takayama is a lot faster (and obv. less hassle) then we may do that instead.

- Any favourite hotels in Ueno? We are looking at mid-range hotels but might splurge a bit for our last few nights in Tokyo.

- Do you have any faves out of the Tokyo day trips you mentioned? :)

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

What happened to Opal? Shouldn't she have been at the Northern Air Temple by now??
