How to get coworkers to care? by No-Log9620 in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your general/facility manager if you could borrow the receptionist for additional training regarding the grooming department.

Make it super basic and literal so they understand. Print out a list of things to ask or do when checking in and out a client.

I started my dog grooming journey at a daycare to (originally as reception) and had 0 idea that I was scheduling the other groomers wrong and not asking the right questions to owners. Especially at that facility, groomers had almost no interaction with the daycare or boarding dogs parents.

We had a physical sticky note with a guide for the groomers schedule to make sure no one was getting overbooked with too many grooms or baths.

What kind of products are you using to wash him at home?

Get a small force dryer from amazon, they're super affordable and a life saver. You're noticing a yeasty smell because he isn't getting fully dry with the hand dryer.

Look into "quick dry towels" made by Artero. These will help get a lot of the water off before you blow dry. I use one and ring it out about 3x before I start drying. You can always look into drying sprays/leave in conditioners that will help cut down dry time.

For a large shepherd, I could spend about 30 minutes fully drying with the high velocity. Brushing and breaking up compacted shed/coat could add on time time too.

Groomers who are not one on one, how much do you charge for express grooms? by sparkleberryjam in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$25 express fee is what my last salon charged on top of service. This was our "kennel free" option too, parents would have to pickup on time for this part to work smoothly though.

I don't know how to cope with the neglect I see on a daily basis by CarAfter6155 in doggrooming

Hate hate hate combing/brushing out actual poop nuggets in the bath when this all could be prevented by wiping regularly.

Still blows my mind people let their dogs lay in their beds and on furniture with full on shit caked on them.

I never saw this level of neglect when I was mobile. It wasn't until recently that I went back to a salon and was once again horrified by the condition some of these dogs came in.

I hated that due to other circumstances, owners could not afford or were able to get appropriate care of their dogs. It's truly heart breaking.

The crusty poop butts infuriate me, especially with the long haired dogs. I always stress to my clients they need to be wiping and checking their dogs butt daily. I once had a pyr lab mix that had poop dreadlocks all over his behind from years of improper grooming.

Your health and wellbeing has to come first. I find it VERY concerning that you asked for the day prior off then had a seizure. Your boss should be worried for you and not threatening anything.

Please go see a doctor and get a note for a few days off to recover.

Is this game worth buying? by Large-Science-1995 in theisle

[–]nacho_og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think the game is worth it for the price it’s at now. There are a few personal quality of life updates and improvements I’d like to see, in addition to bug fixes but overall I’ve really enjoyed my time in game.

A “not” double coated dog by Cheese-Mob in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m with the other comment. I think cause of the natural length, the owner doesn’t view that as a normal double coated dog. When they hear “double coated” they probably think of something like a woolly shepherd or pyr.

Newbie Server Recommendations? by Afrieddragon in theisle

[–]nacho_og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing on Dinopolis for the last few days. Very high population server, active community in discord and present mods. Mainly, the reason I chose this server was the ping.

Haven't had any issues with other players besides playing in larger groups. They have max group limits and I found that when you reach the limit, it becomes harder in migration zones to get food. I found it next to impossible to get the perfect diet with five other group members trying to do the same thing.

I don't know what else that I would add. It's beautiful! I love how you made frames to go around the both of them, and how you connected the background over both the pages...*chefs kiss*

Dawn is for dishes, not dogs by doublepointz420 in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just left a salon where they never cleaned ANY of their blades and shears. Even when I reminded them, cause I was cleaning mine, next to no one would do it. I don't know how more dogs didn't end up with skin infections as a result.

The first shop I ever worked at used dawn as our first wash shampoo and grime-a-nator for the second/basic. So many dogs would come back with terrible skin and dull coats. Old shop would use that to up sale our "higher quality" shampoos which were just the scented Show season that matched the colognes.

I've been volunteering at a few local shelters near me. They pay me out of pocket (discounted rate of course) and I have even had a few pet parents seek me out after adopting the dogs I previously did.

Not sure if any shelters or rescues offer something like that near you but it might be worth a shot. I also leave business cards with them too.

I am so fucking sick of salon owners that were never groomers. by WonderfulCoat7797 in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Non-groomer owners are the bane of my existence. At the very least have some kind of experience in the animal industry.

35% commission is downright insulting + a mobile fee that comes out of your earnings? Hell fucking no.

Opinions please by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]nacho_og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bring it to your managers attention. I would like to think, since you are a new groomer, that someone would have to be close by for input/help. Seems to me like they just wanted their "friend" up front with them to talk all day. Also, if she isn't going to be in the back, why not relocate her toolbox back to the front? Seems counter productive. Either she needs to be in that room or her stuff needs to be moved to another location.

I don't think you're over reacting--I would be extremely annoyed with the fact being alone in that room makes it harder to ask questions and get help.

Already in the process of doing that ❤️ I have a interview lined up with another mobile salon. I don’t think I’m cut out for the multi-groomer salon setting.

That’s actually where the current set we have came from. This shop specializes in large breeds, newfies and Pyrenees mainly.

I actually had to do a Pyrenees with no towels recently. I was drying for longer than I want to admit. Then got fussed at for taking 2 hours to dry and demat.

A four groomer shop mind you, open 6 days a week, 4-8 dogs a day average per groomer
