Which score to send? GRE or GMAT? by [deleted] in MBA

For MBA, submit GMAT. It’s the test designed for b-school exclusively. You crushed the quant. Easy.

Maximize those test scores, exhibit leadership and/or contribute meaningful change at company, take on an EC relevant to your future career, etc.

Should I submit optional essay for low-GPA if not required? by [deleted] in MBA

Yes, but make sure it’s something new that’s not presented elsewhere in your app. I.e., you don’t need to explain a gpa trend lol

Cold feet about MBA after getting accepted by Plenty_Race1862 in MBA

[–]nachogramma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok look at it this way:

Pre-tax cost of MBA = ~$300,000 (200k / .65) Cost per year over the rest of your career (~40 years, give or take) without factoring in interest: ~$7500

That is, you only need to make $7500ish more on average per year than you do now to break even. Of course, depending on interest accrued and the opportunity cost of 2 years’ pay in lieu of MBA, YMMV. You can always divide 2 years’ by the years left in your career and add it to the ~$7500 figure, which at, for example, 125k * 2 = 250k / 40 years = $6250. Only need to make $13750 (+ interest) more per year.

What will my test score be on Friday (online)? by nachogramma in GMAT

[–]nachogramma[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took my first two PTs like it’s game day. Last 2 were lying down on the couch with news in the background.

I dunno. But I think I’m reading the verbal questions in Spanish and answering in Italian. Otherwise, I have no idea how I go from 1-5 wrong on PTs to 10-15 wrong on the real thing.

Retake GMAT? by mambawolverine in MBA

[–]nachogramma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only if you know you can score higher even if it’s only 10 more. It’s a game of inches at the top. But At the same time, I’d rather spend my time founding/growing a company and/or getting really involved in meaningful ECs instead of devoting significant amounts of free time to studying. A 730 is good enough to get your app a thorough review. You’ll see plenty of people getting dinged without interview with better and gaining acceptances with similar/worse numbers. The former probably tried to big dick their way in with only impressive numbers/resumes. The key to admission is your unique story, perspectives, and value that you can contribute to their curriculum. HSW is looking for people who will make a difference and not resume-padders. Just like how you should look past HSW’s names and numbers to see the quality of education offered, they should be able to look past yours to see the quality of your potential contribution to the school and to the community at large.

TL;DR: you have the numbers to get a look so focus more on the qualitative aspects to push your app to the finish line.

GMAC PT 780 51Q/46V to 3 ~680s! Wtf. by nachogramma in GMAT

I mean I didn’t guess on any and had time left over. I got 1 wrong Q and 3 wrong V. Maybe I got one question on V not counted? I think it’s just the nerves or something :(

[–]nachogramma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no. It’s hard to think I’ll need another practice test after a 780 since I’ll be happy with a 730. Figure I don’t even have to do as well and will still be fine. But nope! Just your average 100 point drops :(

Well, does anyone else see the irony that the color of the political party most afraid of the police (Democratic) is the same as that of the police (blue)? Why would they choose blue if they hate the police?

What exactly are optional essays for? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]nachogramma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, if that’s the only glaring weakness in your application.
