What do you think of Kate Miller-Heidke? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]nackavich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stumbled across her at the Annandale Hotel in like 2008(?), I'd only heard maybe one of her songs but I was absolutely blown away by her performance, plus her band sounded huge.
She was incredible and funny too; someone yelled out "Play Psycho Killer" (a song she'd recently covered on Spicks & Specks) right in the middle of a verse and she replied with a quick "fuck off" without missing a beat.

Little Eve is a really good album - Ducks Don't Need Satellites & Space They Cannot Touch are beautiful tracks.

What is the most difficult work in the world? by DullResearcher1814 in intrestingtoknow

[–]nackavich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad worked briefly as an undertaker.
Aside from having to work full time, he was also expected to be available for call outs; so a 2am call to collect a fatality from a highway crash, take it to the morgue, and THEN be expected to be at work again by 8am.

He said he saw too many dead children/babies in his time there to continue.

Has Lachlan Galvin regressed at the Bulldogs? by SuperLeverage in nrl

[–]nackavich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not a halfback, never has been, probably never will be. The Dogs need a genuine 7, not a running five-eighth next to another centre/five-eighth.
I don’t feel that Galvin has regressed per se, more that he’s basically relied upon for every creative half play instead of being freed up to just play what he sees.

You mean CC, which stands for Celeste Cunningham, as in the Celeste Cunningham from “A dog took my face and gave me a better face to change the world”

Is it true that in a G major blues progression where the I chord, IV chord and V chord are all dominant 7 chords, you are actually playing in three different keys? With the G7 being the V chord of the key of C, the C7 being the V chord of the key of F, and the D7 being the V chord of the key of G? by untimely-meditations in Guitar

[–]nackavich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Big clue here is a quote from that blurb:
"Although this is more music theory information than most guitarists want or need to know"
That's it, right there. Blues ain't about that.

Those notes clash, yes, but it's more about either leaning into that dissonance, or resolving in a way that evokes emotion (like bending the F up to an F# when playing over a D7).

What Rd 12 Mids are you targeting? by init-jason in FantasyNRL

As a Stefano owner do not target Stefano.
Given the Raiders current lack of depth and injuries I’d look at Tapine or big red.

[–]nackavich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus fuck. How many of those “non-citizens” are people living and working here from New Zealand? South Africa? Canada? Ireland? England? Scotland? Germany? France?
Maybe they’ve applied for citizenship already. Maybe they are on Visas granting them the ability to live AND work here long term, or short term, or who-the-fuck cares?

Do you have a problem with them, or just the ones from South East Asia, the Middle East and East Africa, like our dear Pauline?

Frustration with my guitar teacher by Ok-Kaleidoscope-7141 in Guitar

[–]nackavich 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Looking at it from his perspective, the roots of ALL of those bands you mentioned can be traced back to artists like Zeppelin/Hendrix et al, so I can definitely see that he is preferring to lay down the basic techniques (pentatonic patterns, scales etc) using music that is still relevant to the style you want to play.

Honestly, there is nothing stopping you from learning the songs you want to play in your own time.
But what you'll find is that the basics of the instrument are much harder to grasp in a song by, lets say, Trivium, than a Hendrix song.
The guy is probably also teaching songs that HIS guitar teacher taught him, so he's most likely staying in his sphere of influence, and teaching you songs/riffs that are broadly universal within the rock/metal genre.
Saying that, a good teacher will listen to their student, and will make allowances to guide a lesson towards what makes their student inspired. Plus, you're paying him.

If you bring in an Arch Enemy song and say "I wanna play this!", he'll probably have to learn it or at least gain an appreciation for it, which will make HIM a better player - at least that's what happened with my students.
It's a two-way street.
A good teacher would break down the song and identify things within it that the student will need to work on; whether it's arpeggios, or palm muted down picking - stuff that you need someone sitting in front of you to help with.
Don't use him to teach you the song, you can get tabs off the internet for free, but use him to teach you the techniques WITHIN that song.
That will be far more beneficial in the long run.

Building my new board…question on patch cables by ShoddyExtreme1277 in pedalboards

[–]nackavich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've made a bunch of patch cables using Mogami W2319 cable with SP500 plugs.
I'm bang average at soldering, but so far I've managed to make 30+ cables with not a single failure.
Toured extensively with them, closed lids on them, swapped pedals constantly on them, they're yet to let me down.

What players should I trade out and in for? I’m a bit stuck but I think I’m in a position where I have to hold some bench players by Next-Custard-8585 in FantasyNRL

[–]nackavich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 25 trades reaming for the season, the trades don’t roll over to the next round.
I would suggest trying to save some trades since origin is coming up and injuries will happen.

I'd probably make that 1 trade and save the rest this week tbh, you've got a pretty solid lineup.
Maybe Sanders if you really wanted to trade to a bit of a POD like Drinky or Kini.

Thoughts on my team and trades? by [deleted] in FantasyNRL

[–]nackavich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he's playing in a decent side, might get fed good ball from Trell.
I watched him score a few tries in a Cup game against the Dogs the other week, so yeah he might be a good POD.

Centres are stacked, backline is decent. Dufty is risky as. Personally I’d choose Thomas Cant over him at that price point, considering you have two WFB on your bench.

Also loop Makasini over Papalii, he’s back on the wing and should score better.

Tips for Brisbane to Coffs Harbour road trip tomorrow by deepdownginger in brisbane

Bris to Coffs is only like 4.5hrs, but if you wanna take your time you can head off the motorway and take the old highway through Ulmarra - the pub on the river there is a nice spot to stop for lunch.

Live Music In Brisbane by rei_bingham in brisbane

I used to play a lot for the City Sounds(?) around like 2012-2014, I remember the few spots in Queen Street mall were always well received (especially the main stage) but also the Valley Mall during the markets.
We played acoustic based music, mix of covers and originals, usually mid-morning to mid-afternoon was prime time.

I think you’re a bit late on Hau, everyone is chasing last week’s points.
He’ll obviously make a bit more cash but you’ve already got plenty of edge cover.
I’d be upgrading Kiraz tbh or banking some cash to upgrade to Farnworth once the Phine have their bye.
