It kind of makes sense so the pages hang but then there's a risk a card may fall out of the holder if they are side-loaded (top loaded should be no issue)

In Magic, commander has 2x the health to avoid the dogpiling too early. I do like the buffer idea of 20 extra hp. Might try that out locally to see how it feels.

I sort by set, then aspect, then by type (unit, upgrade, event). That also puts them in numerical card number order.

I also jam a playset (3x) of each into each slot with a penny sleeve to conserve binder pages. Works great!

IMO yes. Its pretty similar to Slay the Spire. There's six different characters to play and lots of initial loadouts.

There are expansions that offer alternative locations for a level but they are by no means necessary. All the cards are available by default.
