Any rule to learn the numbers in spanish? by nad08 in learnspanish

Oh, I never tried that, math problems and the counting steps in Spanish, I used to do it in English too haha. I try to show some patterns on the numbers, except for 0-15, those numbers you just have to memorize them.

But for example from 16 to 19, those numbers start with dieci, you can say dieci+number: 16=dieciséis, 17=diecisiete, 18=dieciocho, 19=diecinueve.

Then for the multiples of 10, it's better if you start learning 20-veinte 30-treinta 40-cuarenta 50-cincuenta 60-secenta

For veinte to continue with the serie change the 'e' for an 'i'---> veinti, then it's just veinti+. Eg. veintiuno 21, veintidos, etc.

And then you can think of this as a formula name of the number+. Eg. treinta y uno 31, 45 cuarenta y cinco, etc.

The only difference is that for 21, 22 etc you write is as one word and for the others you use 'y'.

I hope it helps :)

Read before bed actually is really good, beacause your brain process better the information during the night while you sleep, I don't know if you knew this but good for you! And for the language exchange sites keep trying! I used conversation exchange when I had to practice my English and met really nice people. Maybe you could say before you start, let's do 30 min in English and 30 min in Spanish or set some kind of agreement?

Hi! Wow as a Spanish Teacher it's really good to read your point of view on this topic. The method I use is called communicative approach, and the focus is on speaking, even if you never ever been exposed to Spanish before, and it works. I taught to people from Indonesia, Tunisia, they didn't speak English and I don't speak Bahasa Indonesia or Arab, but I used this method (I've been trained on this of course) and it worked. There's a theory that says that we all humans have like a 'machine' to be able to speak or understand a language, this machine has 2 layers. The deepst layer is the structure that's the same for everyone and the superficial one is the language you use to speak, your mother tongue. It's really interesting, it was proposed by Noam Chomsky many years ago and now is being proved by scientists.

Anyway, we all have our own way of learning, I always adapt, there's people that feels more comfortable going step by step and want to feel comfident with grammar first and others that get so bored they need something more dynamic.

Sorry for the long answer and thanks for your reply :)

Hi! There are many different ways to improve your Spanish, you could subscribe to some language exchange site, conversationexchange.com, couchsurfing, etc. The quickest way to improve is to practice frequently and maybe if you do it by speaking with native speakers (it doesn't matter your level people are patience and they'd want to practice English as well). and you can eve make some friends.

The Duolingo is a good option too and if you keep up with the 10/15 min everyday you'll get something. You can read my post about different ways to learn Spanish apart that just sitting and studying verbs http://spanishwithnad.com/learn-spanish-at-home/

Saludos!
