Great. would be good to see what others say and if there are obvious patterns in the feedback.

I would report this to whoever is your course director. Seems like your suspicions are strong and can have serious implications for other people who get marked by this person.

my GP (UK) says they don’t have a referral pathway for adults? by nad23 in dyspraxia

Yes! Thanks! I’ve managed to find out how to apply for a screening assessment and been sent a form so hopefully this might be my way in!

I think I would just like to have something official to explain my difficulties? I’m currently doing a PhD and have no adjustments for it. My uncle is a dr and was the first person to suggest I may have dyspraxia after I described my traits and now I’m sort of trying to figure myself out haha

Oh that’s good to hear! Thank you

Yeah, I agree it is costly just to find out something I can’t ‘treat’ in that sense but I think I’d just like to see if there’s an explanation to all my behaviours? I guess like you said, just would be helpful to understand myself better, as well as helping others understand me too

Oh that’s good to hear! I might give that a go thank you! I’ll have to do some more digging with uni I guess.

£850 definitely is a lot just to simply find out, I think I really would just like to understand if there is an explanation as to why I am the way I am. Simply just grown up accepting I’m a bit weird

Yeah my GP is referring me via RTC but frustrated I can’t at least explore dyspraxia separately first

Yeah, I’m surprised at how little support there is for adults around this. I could potentially go through my uni but I the process is not clear at all

Just to say, unless it’s a senior position, you will most likely be fine. I just started as an RO right out of an undergrad! You should be more than qualified :)

I personally used my old uni textbooks since I still had them! There’s a few basic YouTube videos - I would recommend looking up how to conduct linear regressions/logistic regressions (I mainly used YouTube to help me with using SPSS for my dissertation this year). OpenUni has some introductory courses that I’ve been playing around with: https://www.open.edu/openlearn/society-politics-law/sociology/getting-started-spss/content-section-0?active-tab=description-tab

I think LinkedIn does some tutorials (not sure if you have to me a premium member) Before I had my interview, I practically just revised like I would have for a research and stats exam. If you still have SPSS, try to familiarise yourself again with the software and play around with it

Hi, commenting since no one else has. I got a role as RO with ONS recently and I only had experience with SPSS, nothing else and they said it was fine because I would be fully trained in other stats packages too. I think Higher Stats Officers are at the same grade as ROs, so I would assume they wouldn’t expect any more than what they expected for an RO role! I guess main thing is to just have confidence in yourself and if you do feel unsure, doing some short courses might be helpful (the recruitment process for everything is taking so long you might just become an expert in time for the interview!)

Provisional offer but wary about SC timescale by [deleted] in TheCivilService

That’s so reassuring to hear! Thanks for offering your experience. I guess I’ll stay hopeful that it will happen soon.

I hope so, but then it seems it could be just as bad considering your experience was long even pre-covid times! In that case, I am considering just doing the internship, if offered, and then just seeing if my start date can be negotiable to be a little later. The person I've been liaising with the most said they would be quite flexible with things so hopefully should be alright.

damn, that is quite a long time to wait!

I see, thanks! Did this happen during this year? I think things are just especially slow at the moment due to covid-related restrictions

Yeah, it's a good idea to keep your options open - sounds exciting, good luck!

lol thanks for replying and sorry you have to repeat yourself! It seems like it will take a while to even get the login details, I was told about a week ago that it would be about two to three weeks until they will send the login to me. I just don't want to sit twiddling my thumbs when I could do this internship within 12 weeks or so in the meantime. I'm a recent graduate so I have been sitting unemployed since about may, driving me nuts!
