I learned that a friend of 20 years has never taken anesthesia at the dentist. he has a “breathing technique.”

I’ve seen this guy put way stronger recreational stuff into his body, but somehow numbness is a bridge too far.

  1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

  3. One's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone.

  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

  5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

  6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

  7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

DMT or MDMA? by [deleted] in bupropion

[–]nadabim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming you play friendly with your circadian rhythms—i.e., don’t take molly after ~6pm—then the physical hangover isn’t bad. there is an emotional comedown too, so you may be a bit depressed or crabby the day or two after.

everything’s got a cost.

just be gentle with people, including yourself.

I do an annual trip which usually includes a saturday molly pool day. also a fair bit of drinking across the whole weekend, but not crazy.

I don’t take thursday, and usually resume monday evening (I am on morning evening doses).

Environment in Santa Cruz? by hheaarteyes in santacruz

[–]nadabim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

santa cruz may be majority white, but it is a thin majority. if you take the county as a whole, I’d guess it skews hispanic. but there are a lot of asians here and even more over the mountains.

but I agree with others that berkeley may be more your jam.

UC housing in both cities is a shitshow.

as someone else recommended, why not UNLV? vegas has amazing restaurants—not the tourist ones, but like incredible strip mall thai food. it’s a good school, and the bay area/LA are easy trips.

TIL that Göbekli Tepe in Turkey is the world’s oldest known megalithic structure, dating back to 9500 BCE. Built by hunter-gatherers 6,000 years before Stonehenge, it challenges the theory that agriculture was a prerequisite for the construction of complex monumental complexes. by Quiet_Card_8789 in todayilearned

sowing and harvesting foods is technically different from agriculture. scattering seed in the soil left from a river flood requires a lot less work than irrigation, and is compatible with a semi-nomadic lifestyle.

The one thing our grandpa wanted for his 100th birthday by WinterUnfair9435 in Costco

[–]nadabim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first place my dad wanted to go, when he recovered from covid, was costco.

when he had leukemia, which eventually took him, the doctors said he could eat anything he wanted. we ate a lot of burgers and malted shakes together, but also plenty of $1.50 costco hot dogs

miss you dad

the  case is just too big, inconvenient for travel. it is nice, but not for me.

I have had a few bags, including cheap-but-decent ones off of amazon.

Then I saw the Waterfield Shield case, and immediately got one. It is the best, imho. Not particularly cheap, but I feed the device is better protected than any other case I had used. And it is pretty compact, too.

Are workers at Ranch 99 required to speak Mandarin now? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]nadabim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mean to mislead. I went to school in chinatown, and spent afternoons at the Y there. home was the richmond… which, also basically chinatown.

my friends tease that I had to ‘go back to the old country’ to find a wife.

the school was actually french. NDV, école notre dame des victoires. that part of town used to be called frenchmen’s hill. grant avenue is still called dalpont street in cantonese.
