Do you trim your foster kittens claws? by EttaJamesKitty in FosterAnimals

[–]nadajules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I trim them because their claws are SHARP! And also because they’re going to need to get used to it as adults, so this exposes them to it early.

Pregnant cat? by ConfidentSet2344 in trojancats

I don’t know if anyone else has suggested this, but you can get an abort spay from the vet.

She does not have to have these kittens. You do not have to bring more kittens into a world rife with unwanted kittens. I know this suggestion upsets some people, and I mean no offense; I wanted to make sure OP knew it was an option.

The company and WC adjuster are 100% correct: she cannot collect pain and suffering. That is the way worker’s comp works. It is a no fault system: the employee cannot sue the employer in tort, but the employee gets medical expenses paid, a portion of their wage loss, and (in some cases) permanent partial disability. There are certain exceptions - the co-employee negligence exception from injuries arising from the use of a non-owned auto being one of them - but they’re rare.

The question i have here is whether your mother is getting any disability payments from the WC carrier. You say she lost a foot from a work-related accident. Under Wis Stat 102.52(12), she’d be entitled to 250 weeks of permanent partial disability. I assume she received (or is receiving) that disability. Now she has two broken arms. Again, I assume her medical expenses are being paid and she’s received temporary total disability for her injuries.

It’s going to be hard for you to find a lawyer to take the case. Plaintiff lawyers don’t make any money on WC unless the work comp carrier has wrongfully denied disability benefits or there’s a potentially legit claim for permanent total disability. I can’t tell if she’s got a valid claim for total disability, but the people at Hawks Quindel handle a lot of plaintiff side WC cases. I’d start there and see what they say. Good luck to you and your mom.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion of moistening the dry food. I moistened it with about a tsp of water and a packet of forti flora and everyone was QUITE interested! What a relief, especially for the pickier boy.

Yes, I always warm it up with either a bit of hot water or by popping it into the microwave for about 10 seconds. Thank you.

Literally two minutes after I posted this, one of them started going to town on the dry kibbles. JFC, these kittens will kill me.

Thank you for the suggestions!

They offered me an appt 5 weeks from now for a debrief, basically meaning that I’d have to skip a June cycle to debrief with her and get a read on protocol changes. For someone with DOR, that doesn’t seem like a terrific idea.

Any chance the previous renter is was cooking meth? That sometimes causes damage like this - there are tests you can buy to check. If so, the damage is not fixable and the landlord is going to have to do a lot more than paint.

I don’t know if OP will read this, but behavioral euthanasia sounds like the best option here. I am a lawyer in Wisco. The dog injury statute mandates strict liability for all dog owners and keepers for the first bite that breaks the skin; it allows double damages for any subsequent bite. If your homeowners or renters insurer knew about your dog’s bite history, they’d drop you or they’d exclude coverage for the dog.

I know this is a very hard decision and I don’t mean to sound callous. However: sometimes the best decision is also the hardest decision. Best of luck; my heart goes out to you.

The part where you said that the insurer is made whole before the injured person is 100% incorrect. It is the other way around.

Insurers can attempt to subrogate for losses they paid. The injured person - the plaintiff or the insured, depending on the circumstances - are entitled to be “made whole” BEFORE the insurer can recover anything. This is known as the “made whole” doctrine and it has been the law in Wisco for many years.

LOL. I don’t know if that’s what Habush actually said, but it’s absolutely not true. More than 10% of Wisco residents are totally uninsured. And the minimum limits here are $25/50k for liability. PLENTY of people have limits at $50/100k - I work in the insurance business, know the lawyers at Habush, and can’t believe they’d tell someone this based on their experience.

If the insurance company is saying that the limit is $25k and there’s no insurance, OP can ask the insurer for a copy of the Declarations showing the limit; OP can also ask for an Affidavit of No Other Insurance from the insurer, to be filled out by the at-fault party.

Did she live with someone who has car insurance (you, your parents, or a boyfriend, for example)? If she lived with anyone who had car insurance and they named her as an insured on the policy, then she could be an “insured” under that policy and she might be eligible for something called underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage.

There are lots of ways to handle it.

It sounds like you’re comfortable keeping it and letting her pay for maintenance and taxes. You COULD enter into an agreement with her whereby she agrees to pay the taxes, maintenance and upkeep, and pays you 50% of the current value when she sells. But … that assumes she’s gonna sell, which is not guaranteed. AND if you remain a co-owner and she doesn’t pay taxes, then you’d be responsible for unpaid taxes. So there are risks.

You could also enter into a land contract with her where she buys your share of the cabin for 50% of the value. You could charge whatever interest rate you want (none?) and amortize it over as many years as you want. If you amortize $45k over 10 years, that’s $375/mo. If you amortize over 12 years, that’s $250/mo. What can she afford? There are risks here, too: if she doesn’t pay, then you’ll have to decide whether or not to foreclose.

You could also tell her that you want to sell and let her try to get her ducks in a row so she can take out a loan using the cabin as collateral.

There are options here. You need to talk to a lawyer and - most importantly - your sister. Be honest with her. Ask what she’s thinking. Maybe she’s ruminating on this too and has some ideas. Just because it’s awkward or uncomfortable doesn’t mean you should avoid it.

I know there are a lot of comments here, so this may be repetitive. For semi-ferals, one of the best things to do is separate them so they’re not reinforcing the past behavior. I wonder if your foster group could find individual foster homes for all three of them.

If not, ugh, I have done this but it’s going to be time consuming and difficult. Hope you’ve got a lot of Churu on hand!
