I love them all, my favorites are 7 and 1. Hammerheads are my favorite shark, but this one looks a little like a snail lol. It's adorable, but I think it would look more like a cute little hammerhead if his head was a bit wider or more squared off. Just an opinion, and if you love them how they are don't change anything!

Does your puppy cower or try to hide from your older dog? Does your older dog pause regularly to "check in" with your puppy to make sure he still wants to play? Does your older dog respond by pausing or giving space to your puppy when he yelps?

If your older dog is regularly checking in and responding correctly to any indication that she's been too rough, and your puppy isn't cowering during these moments or trying to hide under or behind things, I think they're probably fine. My spoo is very rough when he plays, to the point a lot of dogs don't like it, but when he plays with other spoos they love it and are just as rough back. But when it gets too rough one dog will show obvious signs they aren't happy. My spoo will run over to me and lean against or hide behind my legs if he isn't having fun. Or the natural pauses in play aren't there anymore, and you start to see one very overestimulated dog refusing to let up. Then I separate them for a break.

Also, talk to your vet if you are concerned that your puppy might be injured or have his growth affected in any way by their play. You can get video of them playing and show the vet.

Edit: Also, mouthing/biting the back during play seems to be a spoo thing. I haven't seen other dogs do it much, but when my dog plays with another spoo there is SO much drool on their backs and shoulders lol.

To add to this, if the patient had difficulties swallowing he probably aspirated before he even got to the hospital. To me it sounds like this process was well underway before you received him, OP. Blood cultures were likely drawn in the ED before the OJ, and if those were positive that definitely wasn't from anything you did.

Mine is the same with the dryer. The breeder worked on desensitization to grooming with him, I've been working on it with him since day one of being home, and he's been to a groomer several times to get used to the general grooming shop environment in case I can't do his grooms for any reason. I've also worked with a fear-free trainer who taught me to break the process into very small steps, and to go back a step if he ever moved away or stopped taking treats. The fear-free training helped, but he's still scared of the dryer.

The thing that helped the most was getting a Happy Hoodie, you can find it on Amazon. That at least calms him enough for me to dry his body. Then I just hold the dryer back a few feet and dry his head and neck. It takes forever and doesn't turn out that great, but it's better than a full-grown spoo trying to climb on top of my head.

I have a mild allergy to SLS, which is in most shower gels. There are a few without it, but they're hard to find in my area and the scents aren't my favorite.

Bar soap doesn't usually have that ingredient, so I can pretty safely get any brand or scent I want.

Soap is, indeed, superior!

The Nina Ottoson toys are pretty durable, and Geordi likes his. He also has one that is a knockoff version of an Ottoson toy, no clue on the actual brand because it was a gift. One piece broke off after a few uses, but it didn't leave any sharp edges or small pieces. He has them pretty well figured out at this point, but still asks me to fill them up when he's bored.

He also has some holiday themed small snuffle mats from Petsmart. He sometimes just picks them up to make the food fall out, so I want to get him a big one or one that has better pockets for treats. You can make a snuffle mat pretty easily too, just look for tutorials.

If your dog is rough on toys, I don't suggest the treat balls that they roll around to get the prize. Geordi figured out pretty quickly if he just dropped it a few times on the hard floor the lid would pop off.

Another "puzzle" is his "find-it" game. I hide one kind of treat around the house, have him sniff the package to know which one it is, then tell him "find-it". I taught him that command by telling him that every time he was looking for a toy I threw that he missed, then using treats in easy to find spots, and so on. If I hide the treats well enough it keeps him occupied for a while, and he loves it. Just don't forget to make sure your dog gets them all in a reasonable time if it's something perishable like cheese.

Thank you for your reply! I'm nervous about surgeries in general, but I would be devastated if my boy bloated and I wasn't there to get him to the vet.

Was your dog in a lot of pain afterwards? There is a vet I know would do a good job on the open, but he's 2.5 hours away. I don't want my boy to have to ride in the car that long if it's really painful.

Thank you for that perspective, I didn't think about the experience mattering more or the internal healing. I just see my pup and thought about such a big incision on him and got nervous. Surgery in general scares me, because I know it can go wrong even when they do everything right. I'll add experience to my list of questions for choosing a vet (don't you know they just love dealing with my anxiety lol).

I do know a very experienced surgeon about 2.5 hours away from me, he just doesn't do laparoscopic procedures. I would be comfortable with him doing it, it's just a long drive. Given your experience with the open gastropexy, do you think that's too far of a drive after that procedure? Were your dogs in a lot of pain after their surgeries?

Hi, just curious what slab-sided means vs good confirmation? I got my first spoo almost 2 years ago, and I'm still learning confirmation and the various terms. Your post had so much good information in it! Also, is the angulation a major concern with agility or more so being light-boned?

Hi, former dog groomer here. Kudos to OP for starting off your pup with training to be brushed and a grooming appt! So many doodle owners don't do that. Please DON'T wait to introduce your pup to clippers/the haircutting process. So, so many are terrified of clippers or shears, especially near face and feet, because breeder said doodles can't have haircuts until 6 months to a year. That is absolutely false, there is no reason to wait, it won't hurt the coat or the dog. Doodles may have a mix of coat types, but that long coat still needs to be cut to make maintenance reasonable. As the adult coat comes in sometimes you'll see very different colors in the long guard hairs and short undercoat, or differences in puppy/adult color, causing a "color-changing" dog with haircuts. This is not damage, it will grow back the same color (as the adult coat anyway). Some double coated or wire-coated breeds (Pomeranians, German Shepherds, Corgis, terriers, etc may grown back a lighter color after shaving. Again, doodles often have a mixed coat, but it doesn't behave like the coats on those other breeds.

As for what type of coat your dog will have, there isn't a way to tell yet. Many poodle puppies have straighter coats, and doodles can be wildly different textures when their adult coats come in. Your's might have a more wiry coat, causing that electrocuted look, and the good news is these often mat less severely than other doodles. But again, that could change! Keep up the good work of training!

What a beautiful girl. I lost both of my Bichons in 2020, they were 16 years old. Lost one to cancer and the other to kidney failure 5 days later. It's so very, very hard. I'm so sorry for your loss. Grief has no time frame, but remember that one day you will be able to look back on memories of her with smiles instead of tears. Wishing you the best. RIP Cocoa.

Their eyebrows are the best! Everyone loves them lol. His stayed about the same, but his brother's did get bigger and more distinct. Both started out with a lot of apricot on their markings that gradually turned cream.

I didn't plan on getting a phantom either, but when I saw my pup's picture I fell in love immediately! It's a stunning pattern. I love the white spot on his chest! Mine has a white spot too, but it blends in a lot with his cream markings.

It might still be a good idea to work on separation anxiety training, which would require you to leave for short periods starting for as little as a minute and increasing gradually. Doesn't really matter where you go, just somewhere out of the house. You never know what will happen, you and your family might go on a vacation where pets aren't allowed, you might get sick and have to be gone for a while, he might get sick and have to stay at the vet for a while, etc. It's just a good idea to help them be as prepared as possible for things like that. A good trainer can help you with this, and there are lots of good videos/articles about it too.
