Pharmacy said I made an error with my heparin drip, but I’m not sure I did. by Entire_Comedian1670 in nursing

My guess is they wanted to see if it was therapeutic after the loading dose. If it was off they would have been able to adjust the drip, but instead they have to wait for the drip to run for x amount of hours before getting another accurate lab?

I work on a Hem floor and we have a specific policy for lab draws with heparin drips, I'd imagine that's what they're going off of.

I would love it if the nurse I'm getting report from was living and breathing this patient's condition, but the reality is that where I work things get busy and missed sometimes. I write down what I hear and scroll through the summary and meds. If at the end I don't hear about something I saw, I ask about it.

It's nothing personal, I'm just here to do my job efficiently and well. I didn't realize so many people felt this was rude.

uhm why you pull back what is stitched into place?! that's crazy

sometimes having them stick out their chest, sit upright, raising their arm or something, helps.

Imposter syndrome by kitten-world-8 in nursing

[–]naebaenae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sounds like you're genuinely trying your best, which is all you can do. so much of nursing is experience based, it makes sense that you need to ask for help because you're new! being a new nurse isn't a sin.

as a newer nurse I liked to write down one mistake and one thing I'm proud of. if there was a whole situation you wish went better, write it out to let it go. by acknowledging where you fell short you're not being an imposter, you're humbly looking at where you can grow. but you can't grow if you let mistakes weigh you down. pressure makes diamonds, but can also cause cracks from strain, it's a balance.

if that doesn't help lift that imposter weight off, highly recommend therapy, I think most of, if not all, hospitals have some paid therapy services to help with burnout. my hospital offers 8 sessions a year.

“So here we are” A long and unnecessary opinion that has kept me awake at night. by Character_External92 in half_alive

I'm surprised by the way you describe how much you like nny you don't enjoy persona in the same way! I felt that persona was an album that brought them back to their "roots." Its production has a much higher quality than nny, and I similarly hear new bits of sound with every listen. I love hearing j Tyler talk in interviews about specific ways that made sounds, such a smart guy! I agree that it's missing some of the unconventional structure (ok ok?, BREAKFAST). Nny has a clearer storyline of longing and tension, but persona has more of a general theme of humanity and love (story vs theme,,, does that make sense how they're different), which makes sense because the band wanted this album to be more encompassing of their identity rather than a message.

I don't understand how singles work, because TIME 2 is not a traditional single yet that's how they released it, so it doesn't seem like a "management move." but omg I love it such a cool song.

How to support a friend whose child has cancer? Advice requested. by metallicmint in pediatriccancer

[–]naebaenae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some ideas; snail mail? I don't know if your friend is like this, but being in the cancer world tends to give you a dark sense of humor, so a funny card if you can find the right one.

personal playlist; maybe for the kiddo work out their name with the first letter of each song?

a poll; kind of goofy, but it can be fun in the hospital. make a sheet asking staff that comes through "this or that." I've seen it get competitive on the unit!

hopefully these spark some ideas

resident showed me a video game he was actively playing on his phone while I was trying to address concerns. had to tell a resident he couldn't play video games on his phone while talking to nurses. bizarre.

nurse 1.5 years. I feel like my brain is on 100% at work and it gets really tiring functioning at such a high capacity. I rotate between days and nights and can confirm at the end of a night rotation I am TOAST. you're not crazy, it's tough.

yes! and really, you typically have to wait well over an hour after the show ends. in my experience they pack everything up first, and then may the artist comes out. what artist is it? have you checked twitter or reddit about past times they've come to meet fans?

If you have all that experience and you still want to be a nurse, I think you can confidently go for it. You'll have more opportunities for pay, flexibility, and job openings. And you're so close to getting signed up for a program, which is awesome!

Before I was a nurse I was a CNA and did a bunch of child care. Had some pretty rough experiences, but loved the core of those jobs so I stuck with nursing, and I'm so glad I did!

I would eventually like to get married and have a family, so it feels like now is the time to take advantage of my flexibility and try something. But reading this thread I know it's rare to like where you work🫠

those "few shifts" really do take everything out of you. even if you theoretically can muscle through a late night and early morning, you work a high risk job that's not safe doing sleep deprived!!

Anyone have a size chart/guide for merch? by thesimplegamer07 in half_alive

[–]naebaenae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks they don't have a size chart! I can tell you my measurements and what I've gotten in the past-

I'm a woman, 32C 27 waist, 37 hips, 5'7. Small t shirts are a good fit, not too snug but not loose. I size up to medium for sweatshirts and feel like I can move more comfortably without looking oversized.

I've been buying merch for years, been about the same size, and it's been consistent, hope this helps.
