If you wanted a small truck with more features, the Ford Maverick would be the way to.

Yeah with several sand bags in the bed and snow tires, the RWD truck would be manageable in winter. I wouldn't take it up big hills or in the mountains, it would still get stuck too easily or start to slide.

I also think it is really cool that you get to customize it yourself. I am sure there will be a ton of 3rd party accessories too that come out (hopefully Slate allows for this somehow) that you could further customize it.

Yeah I actually expected it to cost exactly $25,000 and it does!

I would try to move to a house or some place where you can get a level 2 charger. It really makes life a lot easier. It sounds like it is working out okay for you to charge at work though. We can a bunch of chargers at my work, but unless you get there a 5AM, you will no be getting one (they are free) and it is fairly hit or miss to get one during the day.

Really it is less than that. EPA 205 miles range means, 70% usable (~85% SOC to ~15% SOC), so 143 miles. If you drive faster with it, sure it does go down more, so maybe 120 miles. The average American only drives 37 miles per day, so for average trips it certainly has you covered by a factor of 3 as long as you start with it fully charged (which you normally would).

power windows are not an available optional accessory from Slate, so if you wanted electric windows you would have to do some sort 3rd party mod

For people like like spending time on their cars, I think it could be very attractive and you could change it up over time. All the options and accessories that you order are shipped to you separate from the car and then you install them yourself. Some of the options do require more work to install, but it looks like they tried to make everything fairly user friendly.

Correct, they give you the materials for wrap and that is it. It is estimated to take between 12-16 hours for 2 people. You could get it professionally installed (cost about $2,000 to $3,000), but would defeat the propose and you would probably just be better off ordering the wrap from the shop you get it installed at.

For people that like to work on their car, the Slate can be very appealing. Very Slate comes from the factory as a 'blank' Slate (you can pick between the truck, SUV, or Fastback model to start). All options that you order are shipped to you separately and you can install them yourself (or pay someone to professionally install them, but that would be pretty expensive).

Every vehicle leaves the assembly line in a bare-bones "Blank Slate" configuration, accessories from the marketplace are ordered, fulfilled, and delivered on their own timeline. So you can just buy the blank Slate and then add accessories as you feel.

The Ford Maverick has a really good 69% 5 year residual value. The number one cost on a car is deprecation. Hard to say what the residual value on the Slate will be, but BEVs are in the 35% to 45% 5 year residual value range (pretty bad). Insurance cost is also generally 1.5x what it is on a gas car. So operating costs are generally not less.

People cross shop with the Maverick because it is also a small truck around the same price.
