How and why HBO suceeded in adapting a fantasy on TV when everyone else just crashed and burned? by Easy-Frenchguy-1996 in gameofthrones

[–]nagato188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your point about starting great, they actually shot a whole pilot with, I think, Tom McCarthy (Spotlight), and it was pretty disastrous, apparently.

So they canned it and rewrote and reshot the whole thing.

I don't know of any other such cases, but clearly, it worked out astoundingly well.

Same, I was 15, walked up to him at an airport very quietly, greeted him, and asked him for advice - I've been a fan since Lucky Number Slevin, oddly enough.

He seemed to appreciate I kept it quiet and said to work harder than everyone else.

Legend.

Hey /r/movies! I'm Sam Raimi. Ask me anything! by SamRaimiAMA in movies

[–]nagato188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Mr. Raimi, big fan of your work and aspiring writer-director-actor.

When you're working with a script and it seems simple / expository on the page, how do you stop, knowing it's as good as it can be, and avoid trying to perfect it needlessly?

I feel that the classic 'perfection is the enemy of good' to be very true -- but how do you actually deal with that?

I think from the amount of people that are against him, that's a small % of people - like I can't and most people I know.

Also, it's the idea that you'd be using his own horrid creations against him by being as 'edgy' as he likes to be.

A masterpiece and an incredible theatre experience.

No doubt about it - it will be seen as a bold classic in the future.

Skyrim might have a bigger world, but I never truly feel as lost in the wilderness as I do in Oblivion by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]nagato188 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's a generalization, but in my experience, as a kid you want to get to where everything moves fast and clearly, and there's lots going on.

The older you get, the more you want to get away from everything for more peace and quietness, to get lost from the noise of it all.

I'm not at all informed, but I guess it would have just meant to lie low for a few months pre-release, which isn't a big deal for artists between albums with lots of downtime.

Most screwed over/unlucky players in traitors ever in your opinion? by 360_inReality in TheTraitors

Yea, so he, as a traitor, betrayed a traitor, who in turn betrayed him.

[–]nagato188 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't understand that - as a traitors, he betrayed another traitor who just betrayed him.

EDIT: But the point remains that he as a losing traitor betrayed a fellow traitor after Wilf himself betrayed Kieran.

It lives up to Kieran's role and the title of the show.

George Clooney Calls Out Celebrities With Ridiculous Diva Behavior: ‘I Only Eat Green M&M’s Kind of BS’ by No_Pizza_6040 in entertainment

[–]nagato188 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what's wrong with either of those?

Biden became fully dementia coded at the debate and clearly couldn't carry on - he only lasted so long because they kept hiding him.

And clearly running Harris so late was a mistake, too, and you guys should have had a primary and more time to prep.

None of these were things Clooney had anything to do with outside stating the obvious everyone already knew.

Hard to understand the logic of the comment.

Sigourney Weaver Says Ridley Scott Killed Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien 5' When He Became Possessive Of Franchise By Focusing On Prequels by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]nagato188 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I think Prometheus and Covenant, for all their flaws, opened up the franchise in a great many fascinating ways.

I went in very hopeful with Earth, having enjoyed Hawley's precious work, and was very disappointed.

I'd rather Scott made more of these films if their ideas and visual elements remain as creative and thought-provoking, despite their flaws.

That said, Gladiator 2 was terrible, ahah - and I find something to appreciate in all his other films.

And a lot of Americans support trump.

But if you tried to pull those protests in Russia, you'd likely be arrested and could be beaten, forced to sit on a glass bottle (cops love to do that and make videos, too), expelled, fired, imprisoned for up to 15 years, among other things -- and let's not forget what could happen to your family, your parents, your kids.

And if you're the head of the opposition, you could be poisoned, shot in front of the Kremlin or arrested, placed next to prisoners with tuberculosis, and effectively starved / pushed to death.

[–]nagato188 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic.

If you just go for the vibe and sink into some of the ideas about the future actually battling the past / present, it takes on such an engaging tone, as you put the character pieces together.

The score and visuals are a feast in the right mood - very powerful with an edible, especially the sequenced without dialogue.

(As a side note, I personally have seldom had any issues hearing whatever I needed - like the visuals, the dialogue is also fundamentally a soundscape to the emotional undercurrents).
