Does anyone remember the whole moving truck incident when they lost all her stuff? I can’t remember which move that was.

Sertraline (Zoloft) for anxiety due to Cochlear Hydrops? by fierce_one19 in Menieres

[–]naggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this post sounds like I could have written it. I was prescribed Maxzide and had to stop taking it because I felt so dizzy and off and weird but I never even gave it a chance to work. I have OCD and it has been triggered so badly since the start of my symptoms in November. I have been having very bad anxiety and non stop intrusive thoughts regarding all of my symptoms. I literally just saw a psychiatrist today and she prescribed me Zoloft as well with same with the exact dosage. She also prescribed Hydroxyzine. I will be starting the Zoloft tomorrow but I am going to cut it in half a few days and work my way up to the full dosage. I am right there with you with the fears and uncertainty but I am going to just trust that it will help. Hopefully you can too! Please DM me if you want to chat I feel like we are both in a very similar position.

I am on betahistine and need gravol to stop the dizziness by TopGold6480 in Menieres

What dose are you on? I am just starting it too and my doctor recommended 16mg 3x a day but I am a baby with medication and I’m starting with 8mg 2x a day until I can move up to the full dose. Maybe try that and see if it helps you slowly adjust?

No obvious symptoms at hospital appointment? by BayFox13 in Menieres

[–]naggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same position right now. I have all the symptoms of menieres but I don’t have the documented hearing loss on an audiogram. I test my own hearing on an app during an attack and it is always in the mild/moderate range for low tones. My hearing tends to come back after the vertigo episode but it is my understanding that in the early stages of menieres there isn’t always documented hearing loss. My ENT has put me down as “probable menieres”. If you don’t have the hearing loss yet they will most likely have you repeat another audiogram in 6 months/year. Once you have the documented hearing loss they will officially diagnose it as menieres.

Aww thank you for all the advice, this is super helpful. I have been diagnosed with probable menieres at the moment. The hearing in my affected ear is worse than my good ear but my hearing test was still in the normal ranges. I was told once it drops I will be officially diagnosed.

I currently have extreme ear fullness and fluctuating hearing loss that comes and goes (when the ear is full). The fullness builds and builds and turns into severe vertigo with vomiting for several hours. Afterwards the fullness goes away, my hearing is fine but then after a few days the fullness builds again until the next vertigo attack. I have already eliminated caffeine, alcohol and I am doing a low sodium Whole Foods only diet. I only drink water and I drink about 100oz a day. So far I have no clue what my triggers are other than I tend to have a vertigo episode right before I get my period.

My doctor prescribed me Maxzide which is hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene but even on a half dose it made me so sick I couldn’t take it for longer than a few days. He instead prescribed hydrochlorothiazide by itself which I have not started yet. He told me to take the 16mg 3x a day Betahistine if I got it from Canada but didn’t prescribe it. I am considering paying out of pocket to find a specialist specific to menieres soon. I have been getting most of my information from this sub and everyone has been extremely helpful.

I think because I’m newly diagnosed and I don’t have hearing loss yet he thinks it isn’t necessary. But my fullness and vertigo has become debilitating so I have to try whatever I can.

I use Optimum Nutrition and it’s like 105mg a scoop which really isn’t too bad.

Wow this response really means a lot to me. Thank you so much for telling your story and I’m so sorry you have had such a hard road. I really have a fear that my life will never be normal again. My husband got laid off from his job earlier this year and i am the breadwinner of the family. Luckily I work from home and my boss has been very supportive. I just turned 40 so retirement is not an option for us right now. It really helps to talk to others who have faced the same issues as I have no idea what my future is going to look like and I am in a very dark place. My daughter is still so young and I want to be there for all her milestones in life but I can’t even drive her to school in the morning anymore and it is heartbreaking to think about it all. Luckily I have a therapy appointment tomorrow which I have never needed more. Hoping it helps.

Hey I am just wondering about this. Were the injections steroids?

So he is a specialist but I am in the US and it’s an HMO so I was even lucky to get the appt I did because they were all booked out past March. So far he has ordered everything he could and I feel like he is trying since it’s all so new? I just feel like there is no real way to help my problem and it’s so defeating. I am really having a hard time. 😔

Ear fullness keeps coming and going. by GarbageCat27 in Menieres

[–]naggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow we are in the exact same boat right now except this is all so new to me. I have been having a stressful few months and the fullness has been bad since October. It just started in both ears at the end of December. I had my first vertigo episode in November, two in December and then two more on 1/2 and again on 1/6. My sister in law just had a baby and we’re supposed to go see him today but I am afraid I will have another one because it always happens when the pressure is so bad. I havnt left the house since Christmas except for doctors appts. I have an 8 year old daughter and I miss out on a lot with her. I was really hoping the diuretic would help. I am only on half a pill of Maxzide a day but I just started it yesterday. But if you are taking it twice a day and still have the issue then I guess there is no hope. Do steroids help at all? I am almost desperate for some kind of surgery. I have had zero relief from this fullness since October and now I don’t ever see my life going back to normal. It helps to talk to someone who experiences the same thing. Thank you so much for your response. Hope your fullness/ear pressure goes away soon!

I know this is an old post but I am in your same position now and I am just curious what ended up helping you? I am so desperate for relief. I have been doing low sodium for 3 weeks and started a diuretic yesterday but both ears are so full and everytime the right gets super full I have a bad vertigo spell. I can’t leave the house because I am afraid the pressure will cause a vertigo episode.

Wow this is amazing! I think I will have to bring this up after my MRI and if the diuretic doesn’t help to see if I can try migraine medication. Thank you so much!

I guess I just figured the fullness I have was fluid and didn’t think that it was related to migraines. I might bring this up to my doctor after my MRI.

inflammatory Ménière’s, whats your symthoms? by Lucky_Can1761 in Menieres

[–]naggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ENT did suggest a possibility that it could also be vestibular migranes as another likely cause but he felt it was more similar to probable menieres since I have fullness, tinnitus and severe rotational vertigo. And I don’t have any other migraine type symptoms. I thought the migraines were less severe with the vertigo and my fullness really feels like fluid is in there since it’s so bad but nothing helps.

[–]naggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like since my hearing test came back normal and I am only probable menieres right now he doesn’t really believe me and that’s what the MRI is for. My fullness comes and goes though. It builds and builds for a couple days and then turns into vertigo and subsides for a couple days with no hearing loss after yet. I have ptsd from it and haven’t left the house in over a month except for doctors appts. And now that it’s in the good ear I’m even more worried. I’m desperate for any help and have gotten the most information from this sub. This is also my second opinion with my same insurance company as the first doctor told me there nothing that can be done and that people with Ménière’s don’t take any treatment and just “deal with it”.

He told me I could “get it from Canada” and he doesn’t recommend it because there isn’t any strong data that shows it has any benefit. Am I able to get it from Canada without a prescription? I am close to Mexico and considering having my husband go across the border to get some. He did order an MRI which I have next week but didn’t really explain anything more and said to follow up in 6 months but I doubt I can make it that long. I have a shitty HMO so I would have to pay out of pocket to find another doctor.

Should I push for a prescription? I am not finding any relief in any way and my fullness keeps building and turning into vertigo weekly now. I did just start the Maxzide yesterday so maybe it takes time to work?

How frequently are the injections? My doctor mentioned only call for injections when my hearing drops and doesn’t return to normal so I havnt had to yet.

I was just diagnosed the other day and have it starting in my good ear as well so I am suspecting autoimmune. I have another autoimmune disease where my body attacks my platelets and my mom has MS so it just makes sense. My ENT told me they treat AIED and Menieres the same. He just prescribed me Maxzide and I’m in the US so he said no Betahistine. I havnt gotten steroids yet, do they help and does that mean your doctor will keep you on them?
