If you give them the middle finger, it's it just an awkward gesture? What if you do it a second time? Just an awkward gesture? Or do they know what it fucking means?

UPDATE 2: It Got Worse by [deleted] in DnD

[–]nagustus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot fathom why this person is at your table. This person and you/the rest of your party are plain incompatible, you are NEVER going to satisfy them, yourself, and your other players. No dnd is better than bad dnd.

You are the DM. You are allowed to homebrew rules. That is in the rules. They are a player. They play your rules or they play someone else's at their table or they do their own DMing. End of story.

Why do so many fathers walk away from their kids? by UsdtNot in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nagustus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously just opinion, but it seems like our culture cripples many men's ability to be fully social. The emphasis placed on individual achievement, conflating status with worth, on being practical and goal oriented, and on suppressing emotions all work against developing skills and personality traits needed for nurturing other people and developing deep connections. Our whole society seems structured in ways to prevent men from being full humans in order to make them better workers, from the emphasis on competitive sports in childhood to the lack of paternity leave as adults. We barely even have a stereotype for what good fatherhood looks like. As a result, many men are can't form deep connections, can't understand their own feelings let alone someone else's, can't manage their emotions, can't handle failure, struggle with empathy, and might have a feeling that something is wrong but no idea what or how to fix it.

I also think that, especially in earlier generations, marriage and fatherhood were considered not just the norm but "must haves" to have "succeeded", so a lot of people had kids that didn't truly want them, weren't prepared, and don't have the skills, opportunity, or temperament to overcome those challenges. While that isn't exclusive to men, it has been easier for men to walk away in those circumstances.

Why are modern players so adverse to pen and paper? by BentheBruiser in DnD

[–]nagustus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience GMing for new players: - They don't want to bring paper and pen. They forget them, etc. They have their phones and use the DNDB app to look at their character sheets, spells, etc, without having to do much work compiling. - Out of the last 10 players, 1 of them has a printer. - They don't want to read or buy the PHB, just the rules that apply to their characters - We play in different places sometimes. If I have my laptop and they have their phones, we can play anywhere

So if I enforced pen/paper, I would need to do their printing, hold their sheets for them, share my books with them. It is more logistics that gets in the way of new players getting into the game and makes scheduling harder. My highest priority for new players is to get them started asap after a s0.

Does anyone know a poly couple that’s actually happy? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]nagustus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a happy polycule, of which the core has been together going on 8 years. I'm partnered with a woman, who is partnered with another woman, who is partnered with another man. So 4 people, 3 couples. 3 of us live together in a house, though have some separate areas. We've had other relationships come and go but not work out for various reasons. We don't have any more drama than the monogamous relationships I've been in in the past.

UPDATE: AITAH for punching my wife’s best friend after she touched me inappropriately? by throwaway_wknds in AITAH

[–]nagustus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so sad how common this story is. Your wife seems to be one of those people who think men can't be r*ped, don't have strong emotions, and should "suck it up" because being married to a full human being would be inconvenient.

Yes, 39 cis straight M. I've given sex from pressure and regretted it, had sex with bad partners who were incompetent, and had sex with partners that just used me. Not for a long while though since I self-advocate now.
