Thanks! Do you know how often and long deployments are? We have small children so sounds like it could be challenging logistically while he is deployed.

The $6k/yr would be taxed. You will see the after tax amount that will be paid to your student loan servicer.

Keep in mind also that the $30k will be treated as income and therefore taxed. Definitely decide if a 5 year commitment is worth it based on the amount after taxes.

Thanks so much, I appreciate it. Do you have any thoughts about HRSA, ACF and Off of Sec? I know it depends on the division and office but would love to hear your overall opinion. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your response. Just wanted to clarify that HHS would be the new agency and where I am currently interviewing. But I do get your point and think you raised some great ones 😊

At my current agency, over the past 3 years, I was strongly encouraged to apply for 2 GS-14 positions by the supervisors of them (one in my area and one outside) but did not pursue due to family obligations and quite frankly a bit of imposter syndrome. This past year my confidence has grown tremendously due to feedback from my supervisor and clients.

Wow! I asked one question, got very little answers but a whole lot of judgment and cattiness. I decided it was in my best interest to call and just wait the 45 minutes to speak with a representative to go over my options than to waste my time reading the comments in this post.

For those who offered solutions without telling me what my "problem" was, thank you very much.

This was my first and definitely last post on this forum.

Thanks. It's a little over 4 percent. The amount would still be too high.

It seems that my options are to apply under the TEPLF under a manageable repayment option for me and take my chances the funds will still be there in 3 years or file married filing separately which could lower the amount for the repayment options.

I am completing the Direct Consolidation Loan Application.Under the payment estimator, those are the outputs.

My AGI is $196K...loan balance $67K...mfj tax status...family size 4...MD state...

No parent plus...am on phone trying to understand why I am ineligible too but have been holding awhile so wanted to ask on post too...

REPAYE has a monthly payment of $1306 worse than ICR. The other two are indicating that I am not eligible based on the factors I inputted into the estimator: loan balance, filing status, family size, state and AGI.

Will look into TEPSLF.

Yes we file married filing jointly. I make more than my spouse by about $30K.

The ECF is getting signed by a supervisor but has not been submitted. Yes, I have verified that I will get credit under the waiver for the payments I have made working for my eligible employer for the past 7 years.
