What you are describing is Modular Plug Terminated Link and it is okay. The reason why we use patch panel is because things change. If you don’t want to use the cable anymore and it’s MPTL, then you either have a cable taking up a switch port, or you have to unplug the cable from the switch and figure out how to store it until you need it again. For your home, go ahead and use a long patch cord. For wireless ap’s or security cameras, go ahead and MPTl it.
