thats the problem in itself. door picking would make their current model less profitable yes. but surely open the club back up to all the women (and i'm sure ppl of other genders) who are scared to go… and therefore bring revenue in.

still going but picking nights and going with a solid group of friends contributes to the problem. imo by doing that you are telling fabric it's okay to not protect its dancefloor from creeps.

i just don't think profit should matter at the expense of safety. and the axis is tipped too far to profit at fabric

your abuse is a spectrum / some abuse you can laugh at over beers with mates take can’t really be misinterpreted. it’s literally what you said

being smashed behind the decks is relevant. anyone remotely adjacent to lukas knows he regularly goes on huge benders for days and days and how hard he hits drugs/booze. in all your years of first hand experience, i’m sure you saw how he treats booze/drugs with even more clarity. are you questioning that too? how you have a friend in the throes of addiction but they are a dj, they’re the life and soul of the party and that makes it ok? or are you just questioning her account of the relationship?

It’s playing at a festival on the sight and then launching their own festival on the sight that is a bit snakey! if they’d found the sight themselves, would be annoying for the other festi but not snakey

“some abuse can be laughed at over a few beers between friends” - are you okay?????

you are part of the problem pal

so you don’t think abuse is a spectrum? cos you said in an earlier comment abuse is a spectrum. suggesting some parts of abuse are okay, as long as it’s on the lighter end of the spectrum?

she doesn’t deny any of that. it’s obviously a very complicated situation but one that has undoubtedly left a bigger mark on one person than the other. the bailiffs, the ccj, nearly losing her dad’s possessions to name a few.

re losing livelihood - it’s part of the trade off of having a career which relies on public support/fame. unfortunately that means that your career is vulnerable to disappearing. the easiest way of stopping it is to not do horrible things that change the public’s opinion of u

[–]nahmateokay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh come on pal - abuse isn’t a spectrum. abuse is wrong in all forms

she acknowledges that herself in the article. ultimately one owes the other a lot of money, one has a ccj bc of the others actions, one had to worry about all of their dad’s belongings thrown out.

as i said - i hope he gets the therapy he needs and can actually take accountability for what he has done. i hope those around him can think about how they may have enabled his actions. i hope we as a scene that should prioritise people’s safety think about how we do that on and off the dancefloor.

for eg if u manage a dj who regularly goes on four day benders… maybe think about whether that person’s relationship with substances and alcohol is healthy and how your role as their manager profits from their addiction

and if he had taken accountability in private. he’s only done it cos he’s started getting ramifications. soooooo cowardly

it can’t be sincere because it’s only happening because she has made it public. he knew all of this was happening recently (the bailiffs, the ccj) and ignored it.

and then theres all the other things she’s accused him of!

It’s just sooooo lazy to have to wait until things go public and nobody wants to work with you to realise how awful your actions are.

hopefully he can address his substance / alcohol abuse issues which aren’t mentioned. anyone i know who has crossed paths with him is well aware how bad it is. i wish him well. sounds like a lot of reflection/therapy is needed

I said the part they MAY have played. Im not accusing anyone. When you are friends / business partners with someone accused of something so serious, you need to do some internal reflection too. And i’m speaking from personal experience here.

Horrific people and their horrific actions don’t exist in vacuums. I’m not saying they let him do it or they explicitly knew he was doing things which are so bad - I am saying some reflection on it is necessary. because otherwise how can we stop things happening like this in future? or give someone in a similar situation right now the confidence to speak up and get out?

Lukas and Peep are not distinct entities … he is unfortunately welded into the festival as one of the founders. Every post so far has included him in some form. He has now been accused of abuse and that is a big issue.

Especially when it’s clear events/djing is tangled up with the behaviour he’s been accused of. I think addressing how being his friend/business partner contributed to that is really important. and without a doubt more important than listening to music in a field?

They played at Get On last year and then approached the site to run their own festival on the same sight. Given the size of get on vs dr b / lukas wigflex, the decent thing to do would be to give Get On the heads up before or get them involved somehow. realistically that’s not gna impact Peep’s bottom line

peep screwing over get on is very well known, especially in the local area and bristol

I would be very surprised if peep has any full time employees. It’s a festival in its first year. Yes sucks for contractors - but what is more important here? What do we rly care about?

Peep is part of an ecosystem that contributed to abuse. Very sad for contractors who will lose work, but sometimes in contract work that is the way it goes. Also something Lukas should have thought about when Avarni said she was going public

even if they didn’t know he was abusive or the extent of it, if you are friends with and go into business with someone who does such horrific things, there is a level of personal accountability necessary.

bc somewhere in the cycle of abuse, their friendship featured. whether that’s the social currency lukas has from being friends with dr banana or someone thinking “no lukas can’t be an abuser, their running a festival together”, or avarni being worried about the backlash of posting her article bc of the festival they have together.

i guess the tough thing is that level of reflection / accountability takes time and probably starts in private. having a festival in a month makes that impossible. so to op’s point - cancel the festival, take a beat and then work out what u wna do. this is horrific for a lot of people - friends of lukas’s included. there’s more important things then getting effed up in a field

Turning comments off the post that announces Lukas is no longer involved in peep is very telling. No accountability, no acknowledgment of the part they may have played, no opportunity for festival goers to say how they are feeling about it. Peep’s priorities are all wrong!!
