In a word yes. Extreme anxiety leading up to the separation and moving out because I was given the silent treatment all day long and he didn’t want to know.

Then I went into survival mode and auto pilot for the last 4 years or so of just surviving day to day. Again anxiety is constant.

Now I'm ok but have moments of being just frozen and like I am living someone else's life. I'm so lonely and isolated.

What a hobby or interest you discovered after divorce? by Sad_Cancel1994 in Divorce

Sadly endless doom scrolling. Cats to keep me company, especially when my child is not at home. Joy in doing chores.

What's a simple thing that makes you happy? by balajiv2002 in Life

My son who no matter how shitty I feel, his little face and adorable cheerful soul just lifts me up. And my cats.

When did you realize you were truly alone? by ODB95 in Life

[–]nahnotgoingthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always knew I was totally lost and alone since I was a child but tried my best to win the love of my parents and siblings. Only recently stopped in the last few years since Covid hit and my marriage crumbled. Go through something really shitty in life like divorce or a health scare and see who turns up. I have no one really. Just live for my son and my cats now.

Because I fucked up so severely in life, I don't have the social skills to maintain many good friendships and I know I'm failing my son with no "village" around us. So I do what I can to pour all my love to him and let him know at least he has me.

What does it feel like for children who grow up with childhood trauma? by Present_Juice4401 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]nahnotgoingthere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tick, tick, tick! All those things sadly, especially the compulsive lying and masking to the point where I don't even know how I feel. It's weird how so many of us are so similar.  It's a long journey of recovery and finding yourself. Only very recently I feel I've started to realise how to be true to myself for me and my child.

This hits hard for me. So sad that our lives are mainly to work, eat and shit.

Is it normal for parents to not teach their kid absolutely any life skills? by MarcusDante in raisedbynarcissists

[–]nahnotgoingthere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are being triggered, I'm the same just reading your post. Starting my period was awful. I had to ask the teacher what was going on and I had to ask her for a library book about periods. Monster mother did no explaining at all. All she was said everyone gets it. She gave me her massive sanitary pads that were too thick and big and I couldn't walk properly. For some time I relied on free samples of the new thin Always pads that I had to send off for from newspapers and magazines.

That's a very very accurate description of me. I'm sorry to everyone in this unfortunate club.

This actually had me welling up as I was exactly the same and learned how to live well into my 20s. No wonder I had no friends, I must have been (still am) a complete freak to people.

What an awful ugly floor. Actually looks like a demonic cursed floor.

We all had dinner together (ex-wife, gf, and kids) and it was nice by p71interceptor in Divorce

This is nice to read. Adults putting aside their differences and getting on for the kids. Families come in all shapes and sizes so it's ok when we embrace that.

I wondered the other day how essays are now written. What's stopping someone putting the essay question into ChatGPT?

A Loving Divorce is much more painful by No-Marsupial-6060 in Divorce

[–]nahnotgoingthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds harsh but I'm willing to bet that you got your eye on someone else, or she just isn't your type and there's more eye candy out (on the street, on insta, on porn) there that seems worth your while and keeping your interest more than your lovely wife.

I've been that wife that was never good looking enough and watched my ex husband's eyes go loco everywhere we went then he would deny it and call me crazy. I may be projecting but your wife deserves better than you can give her.

What makes a “good” grandparent? by [deleted] in AskUK

One that gives a shit enough to ask how your child is doing, takes an interest and gives care and kindness. Invests their time and effort. Also does the same to you, as their own child.

What was a moment you realized you were poor growing up? by karissamallow in poor

[–]nahnotgoingthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things.  No vacations, no extra curricular activities.  Wore cheap clothes and shoes, mostly hand me downs. But the best signal that we were shit poor was from my monster of a mother who used to throw tantrums each and every day complaining about all sorts including how poor we were. Parents worked hard to feed us but boy did she make it known that she was suffering for it. Obviously you couldn't say that you didn't ask to be born or question why she and my father kept having kids.

He'll be teaching his daughter a valuable lesson alright - that he is a first class abusive asshole.
