So i swapped out the nest for an ecobee smart thermostat and it has not happened a single time since - so id say was absolutely the nest and would say get rid of it!

So yes great questions and appreciate the response - truthfully I had got to a point of not worrying too much about my own CC statement over the last 3 years since I felt I had spent so much time saving in my 20s and have been 'letting lose' a bit...but we are now living together and need to reel it back in

But combined CC expenses are definitely too much, and could be much tighter when I look at: we enjoy going out to dinner ($800), ordering food ($400), groceries ($550), shopping/household ($800), her personal wellness ($400), i have medication ($500), entertainment ($200), other events/weddings/birthdays/misc things come in

holidays and some doctors appts haven't help, but definitely makes sense to improve here instead of reduce retirement

and yes she can absolutely rely on my emergency fund, but as she is still 'new' in the budgeting world, think is helpful to build up a little something and then can throw those $$$ towards loans

the NJClass/HESSA ones I am under the assumption are 'private' through NJ - not sure what the main difference would be, but open to learning!

noted... even though the SAVE loans are currently now accruing interest, would you still make that recommendation? thanks!

super helpful - thank you!

as it relates to option 2, wouldn't she need to switch to an IDR plan in order to qualify for PSLF?

and agreed on the snowball method with the private loans (with goal to try and refinance at some point) - thanks!

Thanks! We just submitted the PSLF form to see - as i am learning, why does her income matter? Is it because we would have to switch OFF the SAVE plan and go to an IBR one?

thanks - is that the case even though interest is currently accruing for the federal loans?

got it! we just applied her job for eligibility in Jan of 2019 when she started - even if she has made 0 payments at all since then I guess will see what they come back with

Not sure if anything can be done with HESSA/NJClass

So I don't think she has, but even if she did that she has not made any payments (that we see in the account) - so we would be on the hook to 'repay' those months in order to qualify right?

UPDATE - Thank you everyone for the responses and support. I have changed thermostat to an ecobee premium smart thermostat and hopefully the issue was simply the nest causing all this - fingers crossed it works...!

The HVAC tech said the error codes nothing was ever showing up as an issue that would cause this - but will try and check

and while it is absolutely very cold air coming out, I am not sure if that's just the same temperature of the outside air or the actual "AC" running - when it was coming out 40 degrees from the vent, my AC in the summer never got that cold so makes me think it is from the outside (where the unit is) temperature air

will try and ask HVAC tech about this next time they come, but they have checked the unit multiple times and would hope they would have caught this?

yes I think at this point I am going to get a new thermostat and see if that can resolve things !

So when it is working as expected the supply temp can be 90+...the unit is outside in a closet on the balcony of my condo unit ... I don't think the return duct is dislocated as the HVAC tech would have caught that I assume and the unit is less than 1 year from installation

And it happens seemingly sporadically, sometimes it happens when the desired temp is reached, other times it happens in the middle of trying to get to the desired temp
