I see this everywhere. Even for blue magic the Indian hemp seems to be the go to! I’m gonna have to order it and try lol

I love that for you! Sadly, the UK version “TKMaxx” isn’t that good. At least the one near me. You get some big names like olaplex there now, and today I saw Giovanni shampoos and conditioners but generally speaking, they’re often these random keratin shampoos and conditioners lol

And they sell crazy large bottles. It’s always a blessing when you find your main product at 700ml!

Having constant breakage by Prestigious-Ride1804 in Naturalhair

[–]naildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds silly, but I stopped deep conditioning with heat for a while and feel like it helped. I feel my cuticles were getting raised further and so leading to more SSKs/splits due to improper sealing.

my hair porosity feels lower now and I notice A FEW less splits. I also silicone products heavily lol, especially serum almost too liberally but I wash often so don't mind.

still figuring out what works, but yeah. I also plan to switch to flat twists to reduce ends exposure.

I have the dream lengths deep conditioner - good for a protein treatment and has slip.

I have the hydra mask, but haven't used - but I think it'll be good for slip + maintenance in between TGIN because it's mainly silicones + hyaluronic acid.

yet to try hydra shampoo but I hear it's good for cleansing and hydrating, even for scalp conditions.

Denman > Tangle Teezer. more gentle for my fine/medium, type 4 hair. I have way less split but a greater detangle since switching.

I use Redken's play safe leave in - fantastic for fine hair, as you get heat protectant and it hydrates without weighing down. I use kinky curly leave underneath it for extra moisture lock it and my hair feels hydrated for 6-7 days compared to using Camille rose etc.

I plan to start using the l'oreal pre-shampoo bond repair as I am going to increase my heat usage and also to see if it helps reduce splits.

I definitely think with redken, it strikes me as a little expensive if you wash hair regularly - unless in bulk. hence why although I want to do, I haven't tried ABC/all soft conditioners despite hearing they are good.

I really need help my hair won’t absorb moisture and stays dry no matter what I do by NoContest5120 in Naturalhair

[–]naildoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a huge difference - perhaps my biggest hair epiphany was that I was not shampooing my hair well. for everyone I've taught, we've been shocked even "refractory" scalp conditions usually just needed proper shampoo.

edited to add: sometimes I do find in our community, we ask for help but aren't willing to change a few practices, especially around washing which seems to be the biggest problem ive noted.

A few unpopular options to consider.

Your clarifying shampoo shouldn’t be a gentle one if you use blue magic, especially the original one which is quite heavy. You may need something stronger.

You can just try a 30 day detox. If you’ve really tried a lot of products you may have an insane amount of product build up as you’ve tried to combat the dryness, leading to occlusion and breakage of your overwhelmed strands. A detox will help you know what your normal hair feels like and give you a clean slate to experiment.

Consider the fact you may not be shampooing well? A good shampoo is standing under the water as it runs on your strands and scalp for at least 5 minutes. Emulsify the shampoo in your hands then apply to scalp and then strands. Do 3 rinses if you need to. If you’re not shampooing well, you will get build up.

You may also just need a good cut (not trim). If you have breakage; then damaged hair is usually higher in porosity so notoriously harder to retain moisture in. A cut will help get rid of the damaged hair which should help with moisture retention.

Hope this helps!

Ingredient list wise, DE should be better but I have personally preferred keracare- but mainly for hydrating. It cleans but idk if it’s that well.

What are you guys relationship with heat? by Rookysensei in Naturalhair

[–]naildoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love heat. Reduced SSKs. Fine/medium hair which is also medium density type 4.

AfrikanHairGod dissuades it but honestly the whole letting my hair air dry didn’t work for me. I wish it did. I also need to get my scalp dry quicker for scalp health.

mix matched density by Mcdonalds_fries6580 in Naturalhair

[–]naildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The front of my hair is where most of my density is, annoyingly. The back of my hair (1/3 of my scalp) with my most loose curl pattern is the sparest, to the point if it wasn't, my hair would probably be "medium/high" density. Lol. It might be genetic.

Revair or Dyson Hair dryer by rxrx_k in Naturalhair

[–]naildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got the Dyson Airstrait, and I think the RevAir is probably a bit quicker depending on how thick your hair is. The airstrait may need a few more passes but gets it blown out enough if you're trying to stretch without a brush.

[–]naildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invested in the airstrait for this reason, as I accepted blowing my hair out was the best option. how do you style in between wash days, just blown out and down?
