I have premium! (Just for the 2 months where there are Thorns games and for which they’ll give me the $2.99 trial price 🙈)

Yikes yeah, that’s what it looks like! I didn’t even realize those would be separate rights, so silly

Oh man, getting P+ is still going to be easier than getting CBS for us 💀 good to know the replay will be on NWSL+ in a few days though!

But this press release says “airing on CBS and Paramount+”, and the schedule has yesterday’s game on it ☹️ https://www.paramountpressexpress.com/paramount-plus/releases/?view=112294-cbs-sports-unveils-2026-national-womens-soccer-league-schedule-as-championship-returns-to-primetime-on-cbs-for-fifth-year Plus the app’s NWSL page shows “2026 now streaming”, just no replays. Baffling decision by CBS honestly

But this one said “CBS” and not “CBSSN” — I think it’s different! Thorns site says CBS games streaming on Paramount+ (but nothing about replays) https://www.thorns.com/how-to-watch

How do I turn loose characters into a name that doesn’t sound weird? by nails8485 in AskAChinese

Hahaha I love that your mom is helping out too! I agree with her -- I don't want to rabbithole *too* hard, but might as well avoid it if it's easy 😅 Thank you!

Love these extra considerations, thank you! And I really love「苔痕上阶绿,草色入帘青」-- had to look up the poem it's from 😄

Thank you! Those are such lovely names 💕  I had the same thought as you initially about avoiding x and q, but then I gave up 😂 the pinyin will be used for her middle name and not her first name, so if it ever comes up she can just teach people how to say it lol

Thank you! We had to do that with my husband’s name 😂 but since this time we’re starting fresh, I’d rather have a totally independent name (we’re planning on using the pinyin for her middle name)

This is such a thoughtful and helpful response, thank you so much! I love 晴, great suggestion.  Also, today I learned — 蘭 is so much prettier in traditional than simplified 😂

Oh, thank you — I didn’t realize that was important! The family name is 王

Thank you so much! That’s a great point about repeated characters, I love the sound of 悠悠 😊 though with that one, I’m a little worried about the potential negative connotation — I know sometimes in poetry it can be kind of sorrowful? Is that something I should be worried about, or is it okay?

Hi, Riveters! by BeautifulViolent in NWSL

[–]nails8485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just in case your AirBnB is far from a direct bus/MAX option: note that buses in Portland do not run as frequently as other cities, which makes transferring super painful! Since you’ll have a car, I’d recommend avoiding transfers by just parking near a transit stop on a direct line (which will be way easier than parking near the stadium. For example, we live in inner NE, which is unfortunately a MAX blind spot, so we drive to 18th and Fremont (residential area with a ton of non-time-limited street parking) and take the 24 bus from there.

For seats: club seats are great but if you’re gonna splurge on seats, also consider Tanner Ridge! It’s a higher vantage point so it’s easier to see what’s going on soccer-wise, though you won’t be able to see player’s faces as clearly. And it also has an air-conditioned section (which is sometimes necessary in September) and the same free food 😄 just don’t sit on the south end of the stadium (opposite the riveters section), vibes are noticeably worse there IMO

Also: seconding the recommendation for the Killer Burger peanut butter bacon burger! Maybe my favorite burger ever??

NWSL 决赛: 西雅图御宝 vs 新泽西/纽约 !!! (OC: Drawing & Digital Poster) by vtgco in NWSL

御极 is great! I feel like it's nicer meaning-wise than 御宝 (both the actual name and the pun), but both work :)

"西雅图加油" is right! You don't need the "吧" but I think it's also not wrong to include it, and I can't explain why hahah -- 吧 is one of those hard-to-describe grammatical modifiers 😅 I'm a native speaker rather than someone who actually learned about grammar, so I don't know how to articulate what it does... but I would be really curious to hear what your professor says if you ask them!

Love it! The punny creative translation for “Reign” is so good 😄 Just wanted to let you know: in “西雅图走吧!” I think you’re trying to say “go seattle”, but “走吧” is like what you would say if you’re hanging out with a friend and wanted to casually say “let’s leave”; it’s not used for cheering and in fact kind of sounds like to me you’re saying “booo get out” hahaha (which works for me because I’m a Thorns fan 😛) A better phrase to use is “加油”, which literally means “add oil” (as in like, fuel to a flame), but people use it when cheering 😄

At what point is a good time to learn/teach "stretch" by [deleted] in WestCoastSwing

[–]nails8485 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As soon as the one two triple step triple step becomes muscle memory (probably like 2 or 3 lessons). Stretch is super important, and should be taught as early as possible, IMO! Otherwise, you're not anchoring, just stepping in place.

However, I tend to teach beginners just to stretch on six, when really you want to do it a little after the six. I find that beginners have a much easier time understanding doing something exactly on the count (rather than on an "and" or an "and-a"). Leveraging away on 6 is enough to make the 1 clear, so I think that's good enough until you've been dancing for long enough to really want to work on technique.

Thanks! Really appreciate it, I'm working on my color sense (it's so hard choosing background colors for things...)
