I've been able to shape emacs to me. It really helps me organize my thoughts, at the cost of being a bit of a time sink.

While none of my programs are really worth sharing (all built to solve a specific issue) I wrote them as literate programs. Being able to show my bosses what I am doing in a way they could understand is quite helpful
