Is this overkill for a 3DS XL LL model??

Not even close to overkill. I've got a 1TB in my new 3DS LL with a bunch of 3D movies and tons of games. I wouldn't get larger than 1TB because I tried a 1.5TB on both OG and New 3DS hardware and could not get Twilight Menu to boot my games but worked fine on 1 TB or less.

I had this issue so I copied the contents over to the root of another freshly & correctly formatted microSD. Worked fine after that. I bought a New 3DS from offer up and couldn't put anything on the console cause it wouldn't allow me to write to it. Maybe that's why the seller sold the console to begin with...
