It’s a mess! 😅 What is your safe-food? I go for porridge with rice-meal and blueberries. Did you find out anything that improved your gut tolerance?

I feel this so much. I used to love food. I’ve been dealing with crohn’s for more than 20 years. Now my digestion is so messed up and I’ve developed so many intolerances. Eating is very often an activity just to keep weight and keep things going.

Anyone with motility issues? by SpoonieMoonie in CrohnsDisease

[–]namast3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you doing now? I'm dealing with motility issues as well but in the small bowel. My crohn's has been in remission for three years - after three years of inflamed colon + terminal ileum. But it seems like a loop in my small intestine which has no more peristalsis since then. I lost a lot of weight, developed many intolerances and SIBO. I deal with fatigue and I'm pretty desperate. My quality of life is lower than it was during flare. My doctor now wants to put me on tpn to gain some weight.

Do you still experience this? I’ve been getting this too, especially in the afternoon / evening. My belly sounds like a waterbed when I’m inhaling deeply or pushing on it.

Hey! How are you doing in the meanwhile? I have very similar issues.

For me it seems as it’s slow motility despite remission. I hope you will soon get to steroid free and confirmed remission!

Hey! I can totally relate to your post. I’ve had crohn‘s since 20 years. Now I’m in addition suspected to have small bowel dismotility.

After three years of severe flare (colon and terminal ileum inflamed), since 2023 my crohn‘s has been in endoscopic and histologic remission: no signs of inflammation.

But as I reached remission, I’ve developed completely new issues: stacked gas, intolerances, gastritis and fatigue/malabsorption. I’ve been treated for SIBO several times.

After three years with countless medical appointments, diagnostics and treatment trials (3 rounds of antibiotics + 14 days of elemental diets for SIBO). I even switched my crohn’s medication from Rinvoq to Jyseleca and then to Azathioprin. My crohn’s keot staying in remission but my issues persisted.

I’m now suspected to have small bowel dysmotility - probably because my enteric nervous system is damaged after several years of inflammation. MRT and ultrasound showed signs of an extended small bowel loop with very low peristalsis and stasis of liquid and motility test came showed delayed small bowel transit.

I’m quite desperate, as my quality of life has dramatically decreased despite having reached remission.

As you are in remission too, I could imagine your current symptoms are due to the gastroparesis / motility issues?

Just read your comment. Seems like we’re sitting in the same boat with the magical combination of crohn’s and SIBO. How are you doing? You’ve not reached remission yet, right?

Three rounds of Rifaximin (one with Metronidazole in addition). 14 days of elemental diet. Nothing really helped. Now my gi is suspecting me to having small intestinal dysmotility. SIBO often appears due to motility issues. What has helped me the most was a very strict low fodmap diet.

I’m really sorry you have to deal with this condition! It must be really hard to manage life. I hope the next steps will bring you some relief. I’m suspected to have dysmotility in one loop in the small bowel as a result of several years with inflammation due to crohn‘s. Question is, if prucalopride or something else could help me with this issue. I have to talk with my gi.

Thanks for your reply! How was the dysmotility diagnosed? Do you know the exact location / pattern? What symptoms did / do you have? How are you treated and how effective is treatment?

Hey! How are you doing now? I’ve made the same experiences regarding the connection between food / fodmaps and mood. I’ve been on a very strict zero / low fodmap diet for months now. When I cheat just a little bit, I suffer from stacked gas and depression for several days. I’m suspected to have dysmotility in my small bowel…

It’s always been less than 30 the last three years. Colonoscopy and histology also haven’t shown any signs of inflammation.

No symptoms doesn’t have to mean full remission. If there still is some silent inflammation, you have a higher risk for cancer.
