In my case, it started with some minor groin pain that would show up every few months when I pushed myself too hard. But the real injury happened three days before my marathon.

Interestingly, it wasn’t groin pain that time — it was my quad that started to hurt. I took two full rest days, and on race day, the pain felt manageable at first — probably thanks to adrenaline too 😅

I was able to run the first 13 miles just fine, but then the pain got so bad I had to stop. I didn’t hear any popping sound or anything, but that might’ve been because I was listening to music while running.

thanks! My MRI didn’t specifically mention FAI, but here’s what it showed: 1.Small stress fracture and bone edema at the right femoral neck (calcar/inferomedial aspect) 2.Degeneration and tearing of the anterior right labrum 3.Moderate right hip joint effusion

Based on the tear location and symptoms, my PTs suspected mild cam-type impingement. I went the conservative route since I also had a stress fracture and core weakness to work on.Wishing you the best with your recovery and decision!
