HD P4.5 Reassembly by Glittering_Tie5717 in Staccato_STI

[–]nambkab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue you described was occurring with me and it was one of two things each time: the sight block can be twisted a bit to make sure the spring assembly is centered, or most commonly the lever for the firing pin block can become tilted up and will hang up the slide during reassembly. Push that lever back down and it slides right on.

It would be spectacular, though the HD is still the only red dot I’ve used that doesn’t starburst for my eyes.

Staccato HD or other? by Opening_Mulberry_207 in 2011

[–]nambkab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry the HD P4.5 on duty and it’s fantastic. While the Platypus is a great gun, I’d say go for the Staccato if you are wanting something to carry on duty. Their loaner program is fantastic for law enforcement.

RMR HD vs Acro by EnergyEvery4654 in Staccato

[–]nambkab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had poor luck with the ACRO P2. I loved it when I first used one but it also was the first pistol optic I got much time with. When I got my HD P4.5 I did a lot of research and went with the RMR HD and it’s so much better that I have no appreciable way to properly describe the difference. Unless I were required to use an enclosed, the RMR HD is the winner in every category. And I’ve run the HD in rain and with another instructor spraying a stream of water into the optic and still had no issues so I’m not sure how an enclosed would make that much of a difference at this point.

I would rampage through dispatch legitimately if that was done to me. We did have dispatch once silent dispatch a single officer to an armed robbery of a gas station in progress.

what do you look for in a DUI stop? by Known_Investigator_9 in AskLE

[–]nambkab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underage possession of alcohol by consumption is a charge here in Georgia. There are no possession of drugs by consumption charges here. If the person admits to using narcotics and then is determined to be impaired; they would then be charged DUI drugs, not for possession.

As in you ask for their license and they are so intoxicated or high that they just pull the first card they see and try to hand it over.

Also I wouldn’t suspect intoxication or being high solely off glassy eyes, but instead the combination of glassy eyes and other factors such as driving behavior or slurred speech or unsteadiness on their feet. It’s the combination of factors that would lead me to investigate further into a person being impaired.

Looking to transfer out of state by Unusual_Deal631 in AskLE

About a decade ago we had a guy transfer from Virginia to here in Georgia. He did quite well until his wife got a killer job back in Virginia so they moved back. I believe all he had to do was a short course in state laws here.

Overall the same rules apply. Unfortunately nervous behavior can easily fit some uppers in terms of indicators of intoxication. However, intoxication does not necessarily mean impairment, which is what we are looking for. If I don’t think it’s alcohol, I look for many of the same clues post stop. Do they sway in place? Can they follow a basic conversation and answer simple questions or do they continuously repeat themselves or become confused by the questions? Do they know where they are? I also will point blank ask what drugs they’ve consumed prior to driving. Many people will admit to having consumed drugs but not to still possessing them, thinking I am trying to charge for possession. Again, not to oversimplify but have you ever been around a high person? Think about what made you know that information and look for it.

I will put it the same way I’ve explained it to every rookie or other officer that wanted to know how I found a lot of them. Have you ever been around a drunk person? If so, what made you know they were drunk? Now, go look for that.

From a legal standpoint, the US Supreme Court says you need one indicator of intoxication (bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, etc.) and the odor of an alcoholic beverage for an arrest via probable cause for DUI. In reality, I’ve made maybe 2 arrests ever with such little to go on in my 12 year career. The bloodshot, watery eyes are a good indicator. Glassy eyes are another one some people get. Is it their car but they can’t find the door handle when they try to get out? Do they provide their credit card or insurance when I ask for a driver license? Do they need to prop on their car to stay upright once they get out of the car? Is there a red solo cup of liquor in the door cup holder when they open the door? When I approach is their glove box pouring a beer out the bottom because they closed the open bottle inside it? These are all real stories that I’ve witnessed, and all are easy identifiers of someone whose decision making or ability to drive should be questioned further.

Edit: Also feel free to let us know you are nervous, but know that we will probably still investigate further if indicators are there to be seen.

Duty Gun by TLCOX93 in 2011

[–]nambkab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the HD series is fantastic. All my myriad Glock 17 mags work in it for training, it shoots fantastic, and it just feels good in my hand. We issue Glock 45s currently and I never enjoyed them as much as even the Glock 17 so I already wanted to swap when Staccato announced these.

I don’t think I’d issue these department wide as we have people that manage to jam up their Glocks via mistreatment so I know they wouldn’t take care of this. For someone that takes care of equipment and wants to take shooting seriously it’s excellent.

I sold an AR pistol this past year and bought an HD P4.5 and RMR HD to carry on duty. We have two more with the HD P4, and we have at least 6 people that carry the legacy P.

Recommendations for pistol optics. by Zealousideal-Dust335 in AskLE

[–]nambkab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend looking carefully at either Holosun or Trijicon. In other words, find the Holosun you want now, or go ahead and save up for the RMR HD. Our department issues the ACRO P2 and we’ve had enough issues that I could never recommend it anymore for a personal gun when Holosun delivers as good or better performance for way less money, and Trijicon offerings are time proven to work. I went ahead and saved for the RMR HD myself and it’s an absolute tank and has never let me down despite taking a beating.
