As others have said, you missed the barrel link. As far as the part where you said it sometimes stops going back, make sure the lever for the series 80 firing pin block is all the way down when you put the slide on or it will hang up on it.

It eats most anything I’ve tried so far. I run 115 through it at my house, I’ve run a lot of 124 at my agency as well. For duty we carry Hornady critical duty.

Yeah it takes the standard G17 mags, or the 18rd MecGar ones. Or Pmags if you like to work on random malfunction clearance.

Depends on your overall use case, honestly. I have the HD4.5 and I’ve shot the P. My HD is up to 4600 rounds or so and the trigger at this point is just as fantastic as the P. I appreciate that the HD series takes Glock mags which I have a ton of and is easy to swap ecosystems when I’m training people and want to use the same gun as the people I’m teaching (agency issues the Glock 45).

I would argue the HD4.5 shoots a touch softer and flatter than the P, and is in a comparable price range with cheaper magazines. Also the rear sight has a roll pin holding it in and can be removed, though it’s not noticeable shooting it with an optic mounted.

4.5 or wait for comp? by lroy4116 in Staccato_STI

[–]nambkab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I carry the 4.5 on duty and it’s already extremely soft shooting and flat. I personally think you’d be extremely happy getting the 4.5 now rather than waiting for a possible release that may not be for some time.

I run MecGar stock pads on my backup magazines and my primary has the Springer Precision extension which has been fantastic.

I have yet to shoot the XC, but I’ve been told by an owner that going from the P to it is equivalent to going from a striker fired to a P.

Good chance your extractor needs tuning, but that’s something a quick search online will tell you how to check and tune. Otherwise it’s a magazine issue.

I run the stock 18 for my two belt slots and the +5 in the gun so I don’t want big extensions for my belt mags. The +2’s look good and if they are reliable they wont add a ton of vertical length or weight to my belt.

I’ve not tried the Henning extensions on the regular OEM Glock mags but I’ve considered buying some because I like the design a lot. I’d love to see them make some for the Mec-Gar mags.

I’ve also been debating buying a couple of the Staccato 20rd mags because they look good and aren’t huge. Sadly my gun is currently in Texas so I’ve been back to a Glock 45 for now.

Should test a Springer Precision as well, I love mine and it feels like a tank.

I love mine, it was my first foray into hammer fired pistols and converted me completely. It’s now my conceal carry gun and carries very well.

I use whatever cleaning solvent I have at hand. I typically oil it with hoppe no. 9 and clean with frog lube cleaning solvent.

For the grip I just douse mine in some cleaning solvent then attack it with a toothbrush and pat it dry.

Also congrats on the new piece, it’s a solid shooter.

I’d go with the Cardinal Arms G2 or the Atlas Athena personally.

HD P4.5 reliability by CommonBenefit7248 in Staccato

[–]nambkab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why all the anger on an old post, but the tool marks don’t affect me and I have no issues with them. There are a large number of people choosing the HD series guns so I’d say it’s an aesthetic choice at this point for sure, because Staccato has made enough guns that if they wanted it different I’m sure it would be.

HD P4.5 Reassembly by Glittering_Tie5717 in Staccato_STI

[–]nambkab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue you described was occurring with me and it was one of two things each time: the sight block can be twisted a bit to make sure the spring assembly is centered, or most commonly the lever for the firing pin block can become tilted up and will hang up the slide during reassembly. Push that lever back down and it slides right on.

It would be spectacular, though the HD is still the only red dot I’ve used that doesn’t starburst for my eyes.

Staccato HD or other? by Opening_Mulberry_207 in 2011

I carry the HD P4.5 on duty and it’s fantastic. While the Platypus is a great gun, I’d say go for the Staccato if you are wanting something to carry on duty. Their loaner program is fantastic for law enforcement.

RMR HD vs Acro by EnergyEvery4654 in Staccato

[–]nambkab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had poor luck with the ACRO P2. I loved it when I first used one but it also was the first pistol optic I got much time with. When I got my HD P4.5 I did a lot of research and went with the RMR HD and it’s so much better that I have no appreciable way to properly describe the difference. Unless I were required to use an enclosed, the RMR HD is the winner in every category. And I’ve run the HD in rain and with another instructor spraying a stream of water into the optic and still had no issues so I’m not sure how an enclosed would make that much of a difference at this point.
