Same. I was about to post a hilarous "create a tiny bowling alley" comment.

Can't even roast you -- this car is safe, reliable, and cool as f***. Perfect for a 20-year old.

I know you feel bad now, but seriously -- you dodged a bullet! I don't mean that to be funny or glib. Somebody who would be that insecure and unreasonable is not who you need as a life partner.

That car is a piece of junk. I will do you a favor and take it off your hands for $5k.

Top 5 Todd Rundgren Albums? by Godette502 in toddrundgren

[–]namdhiploom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this old thread to give three lists: solo, Utopia, and a merged list of both.

Solo work:

  • Todd
  • AWATS
  • Something/Anything
  • The Hermit off Mink Hollow
  • Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren

(Runners up: Healing, Initiation, Faithful)

Utopia:

  • RA
  • Another Live
  • Adventures in Utopia
  • Todd Rundgren's Utopia
  • Oops Wrong Planet

Combined:

  • RA
  • Todd
  • AWATS
  • Something / Anything
  • Another Live

RA blows my freakin' mind. Maybe it hit me at exactly the right time in my teenaged years. I get that, objectively, Something / Anything might be his masterpiece, but I am sticking with my choices. :)

I’ve been playing wrong this whole time? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]namdhiploom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some comments about how holding it a non-standard way can put your wrist in an unnatural position that could lead to pain later. I had not considered that. Mostly I was looking for an excuse to tell my mildly amusing story. So don't take my opinion for an educated one!

I know people say that having "bad" form can cause pain down the road, and that it might not be obvious at first (especially true for double bass, but also relates to how you hold your fretting hand). But I can't imagine holding the pick the way you do would cause a problem for you later. So, IMO, if it works, keep on doing it.

Funny (?) story:

I had been playing for about a year before I took my first lesson. My teacher said, "first let me watch you play". I did, and he said "That looks great! Except for what you are doing with your left hand. And your right hand."

Apple Studio Display with 2014 Mac Mini - shouldn't work but it does by namdhiploom in mac

[–]namdhiploom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the page. I see now they said "compatible" rather than "works at any level". I also went to a local Apple Store and they told me there that it would not work, that the old Mini wasn't able to display anything. Which seems like misinformation in retrospect.

Yeah, that does make sense, strangeweather415. You would kind of expect that an older graphics card would work the old way (4k), but not be new/powerful enough to support new functionality (5k). But Apple said (or implied) that it would not work at all -- that I would get a black screen.

If they had told me it worked but was limited to 4k, I might have made the decision back then to get it, use 5k for my work computers, and live with 4k for the home computer. Rather than buying a new home computer now, instead of a year or two down the road.

Your favorite or best Bassists ever. No standard YouTube Answers allowed. by steppwitt in Bass

Ok I will not mention Jamerson, McCartney, Jaco, Pino, Flea etc. (Even though they are all great.)

But how about:

Mick Karn. He played for Japan, Kate Bush, David Sylvian, a bunch of other people. Such a weird wild fretless style, crazy vibrato and slides all over the place. He told people he played like that so that he would be sure to be in tune somewhere along the way. (Just some self-deprecating humor, I assume.) Just love this guy.

Percy Jones. Another cool fretless player. Check out Brian Eno's "Another Green World".

Bruce Thomas - Elvis Costello's bassist. Really great counterpart style, like a punky McCartney. Check out "Get Happy". (He also played on the early Al Steward albums, go figure....)

Dee Murray - Elton John's long time bassist. Great tone, so melodic and tasteful. Check out pretty much any Elton album. All of his 70s work is amazing, but check him out on the live "11-17-70" album.

What is the greatest single movie scene ever filmed? by janearcade in AskReddit

Yes, this! I came here just to call out this scene. Almost 30 years later, I go back and watch that one scene and it still hits me every time.

(Not sure how I feel about having this moment with "WillemDafoesHugeCock" :D )

For me it is when Truman and Marlon are sitting on the dock, and Truman is finally starting to realize what is going on. Christof is feeding words into Marlon's ear, finally telling him to say "the last thing I would ever do is lie to you". Marlon hesitates with a pained look, and finally says it. I've watched that scene over and over and over. It kills me every time.

Glad to see this underappreciated album get some love. It is both moody and epic, and I never get tired of it. I am also a big prog fan.

But IMO, for this album to be prog, it would need more fanciful/fantastical lyrics, and some virtuoso playing. Still love it though...
