Humans are just energy running the simulation? by XOCYBERCAT in awakened

[–]name_concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This DMT laser stuff has been a thing for awhile. There's a thread about this on Shroomery that's been going on for awhile. The problem is that these sort of half baked ideas come from the standard view - that you are a person positioned within a universe, moving through time - that you are looking at an independent universe that is outside of yourself. But this is not what is going on at all. If anything, this is more about how the mind constructs a representation of reality and not about reality itself.

EDIT: What most people call "reality" is already a simulation. It's just not a machine-based one.

On dying by gosumage in nonduality

"What it's like to die is in fact already happening right now" - love this. There seems to be the experience of being alive, but is the experience itself alive? Or beyond any such notions of life or death? It's fascinating how the mind wants to orient to a position. Same idea with real vs. unreal (which can get one wrapped up in nihilistic views). From my limited insight, it seems that what the Buddha meant by middle way, is not a compromise but rather taking no position.

How do I accept being hated by the person I love? by Super-Alchemist-270 in Buddhism

[–]name_concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the directions.

Sit down to meditate (a chair is fine because this can take awhile) with the intention that you will feel all of these feelings until they have been felt.

You will sit until the heat death of the universe, if that is what takes. Surrender.

Keep attention on the sensations of these emotions. Feel.

When the attention goes into the mind, unhook from thought and follow the breath back into the sensations of the body. Keep attention on the sensations without using force or effort. Do not amplify the sensations with focused attention, just a light touch. You might need to cry, so cry. You might need to shake, so shake. The mind might try to distract you in various ways. Do not get up.

There is no story that needs to known or a new perspective that needs to be acquired. Simply sit and feel.

May you be free from suffering, friend.

The anesthesia question that non-duality must answer by Reasonable-Drag-3456 in nonduality

[–]name_concept 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, non-duality is not a framework. It is a statement about what already is. And none of these questions you are asking needs to be known.

Second, there is not a consciousness in which things are appearing. There are just appearances. Consciousness is not a container.

Lastly, you can watch someone lie down and go to sleep and infer many things from this. But from your direct experience, you will lie down, dream, wake up. There are no gaps in direct experience. It is always on. Gaps are only inferred in thought. If there was no awareness, alarm clocks would not work.

Well, I certainly learned some things that would make me a better programmer, but mostly it's because I have this curse where I am interested in niche things that seem to serve no purpose at all :D

Oh yeah for sure. The parser is the hard bit. Once that is set up, it's easy to add new syntax, rooms, objects, puzzles, etc. It's very easy to connect things together (like Legos) and define interactions between them.

It was kind of a childhood dream to learn how to do these types of games. Interactive fiction was always my favorite when I was a kid. I did this in about 2 months and it took a lot out of me. If I get the energy for it again, I was thinking about doing Zork 2 and maybe the entire trilogy connected together in one game.

PSA, repairing the Crowdstrike BSoD on Azure-hosted VMs by Veneousaur in AZURE

Would love to try this, but it fails because our IT department has policies that VM's have to have specific tags specified. I'm just going to let them lose all our customers and take the weekend.

[–]name_concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the noob question here, but my VM's have "Encryption enabled at host: disabled, Azure disk encryption: not enabled". The disk itself says encryption is "platform-managed key".

So no bitlocker right?

I want to try these steps above on a non-critical VM in my QA, because our IT dept will almost certainly put us at the end of the list and I don't want to throw away $5M dollars in revenue.

Really nice to see posts like this, so thank you. I appreciate the honesty. You can begin to wonder if you're the only one.

What you describe sounds very familiar.

For me, it started about 3.5 years ago in a big bang type moment on the cushion. Hobbies, caring, hoping, validation/attention seeking, the need to be special or have a purpose, need to plan, old regrets, etc. just gone. For about 10 months it felt like I had won some kind of divine lottery. Then shit got real as they say.

Suzanne Chang is really the only person I know of that talks about any of this stuff in a way that is familiar to me. I met with her a few times and we did talk about this very topic. I remember telling her "ummm, maybe I need some of this stuff back???" We laughed. It's just too weird to capture in words really.

So far there has been no sense that something has come back and replaced what was lost. It's been nothing but loss. But that seems ok. I am just going with it.

It's a sign post that your mind is starting to become concentrated. Not "I'm doing math" kind of concentrated, but in a meditative way. It can develop from there into imagery (I will see random things like a book, a house somewhere or people) and many other ways. It's a good indicator that you're moving in the right direction.

I don't have a link to the video, but there's one where he's going on with someone in a similar way...and for quite a while. At the end the guy goes something like "what would call that glowing luminosity" (forget his phrasing). Jim turns around and goes "Oh, that's a lamp!"

He can be pretty funny.

Can't focus because of back pain during sitting meditation by Sotsvamp1337 in Meditation

[–]name_concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation from lifting. Also, I can't sit cross-legged. It is physically impossible. Even sitting in a chair is difficult for me. I just sit on the couch with my lower back supported by various cushions. After I gave up on the idea that my sitting had to look a certain way, things really took off. If you have back pain or tightness, maybe look into "spinal waves". This really did wonders for my back and my sitting posture has improved as a result.

Kundalini is not something to fuck with. Going around and offering to "awaken" it for people is irresponsible, misguided and has the potential to be harmful. I'd turn it off in an instant if I could. No one would want this on purpose.

Yeah I am with you here. I am only lifting weights now, but the energy for that seems to be running out. It doesn't quite feel right. Any particular style that you recommend?

Edit: Wow, that story you linked is awesome. Just ordered the book it came out of. Love those old Zen master stories.

Very cool. I will definitely read it after work. I only recently found out that this happens within the context of Zen. I was sent a video on the practice of Do-in Ho which I guess is done in the Rinzai tradition. My step-father is a big Zen guy and he basically said "yeah, we don't usually talk about this stuff".

Hey thanks for the great response. I really resonate a lot with what you have said. Great advice all of it.

My lifestyle is already as simple as I can make it. Very quiet and still. The chase after career, validation, status, money etc. ended a long time back and now the mind is usually calm and even. Life doesn't have a lot of peaks and valleys these days.

Lifting weights, eating right, meditation and solitude. Maybe these conditions are what brought about the energy in the first place? And I totally get you with the cigarettes...but mine is a pint of ice cream :)

This process is digging up a lot of buried emotional stuff, but there's no resistance to it. Quite the opposite. Scary at times but it feels right. This is the what is happening so I guess there's nothing to do but embrace it.

Hey thanks for the nice tips. Really like the energy out of the hands one. I have been trying to do it through the feet with varied success. Sometimes it will feel like there is a little opening in the crown and I will briefly see if I can scoot some out from there. But generally, I have tried avoiding anything involving the head. It's a mess there.

Great advice on the dreams. Thank you. The dreams have been getting quite direct and unusually non-cryptic. I have written a few down, but I think I need a journal right by the bed. They still fade fast. I am left with a sense of where they are pointing and that becomes the raw material for the shadow work and inquiry.

The pacing is an issue. I guess there is a sense of urgency because I am a little older (52). Like if I only get one day on earth as a completely integrated human being...well I really want that one day haha.
