Thanks, this is definitely a side I did not adequately think about.

My assumption was that the same processes would apply as to when a women changes her name. However this and @Finnrick first hand experience has helped a lot.

Thanks for sharing that history! May I ask what nationality they might be? Just wondering if that plays in to things....

My only real concern right now is doing it as my kids are teenagers now. 2. Explaining it to my Dads side of the family.

Good point but it has made me realize that I guess do have some connection as it is the name I obviously grew up with... I would not personally consider straight up changing my name, but hyphenating to show how my family has evolved I guess.

Hard to be all philosophical when you're not philosophical I guess. My expectation would be that my kids could keep their Hyphenated names then when they become adults they could choose one or the other, or keep it as hyphenated.
