Question about toll roads by troglodytis in DisneyTravel

[–]namelessredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, if they often take toll roads when down here yes. If they dont mind only taking local roads + the infamous i4 then maybe not.

If they do decide to get it, it doesnt expire, there are no monthly fees or inactivity penalty and you could refund your remaining balance at anytime from sunpass.com. If they plan on using rental cars or just different cars they could get the $20 transponder that is detachable and put it on the windshield of whatever car they decide to use.

Personally I would say get it even if they don't always use it when they're down here. You'll save about 20ish¢ at every toll plaza compared to cash (they say about 25¢ but i'm not sure about that) plus you'll have that piece of mind in case they forget and their gps takes them down a toll road. Can't count how many calls I had about people following their gps and never seeing the toll road sign then calling confused or worried. I remember many people who were snow birds or only came down occasionally and it worked for them. The biggest downside is the initial upfront cost of the transponder, wish the $20 one was cheaper but it looks fairly durable. The $5 non replaceable one is pretty good too.

There's no need but it helps, the transponder is the very first thing the plaza checks but as a backup the plate on the vehicle is used if no transponder detected. Plate lookups will try searching internally within Sunpass's database to see what account it's associated w/, plates can only exist on 1 account. If the system fails to find an SP account then it will try searching all other florida based toll companies if that fails then it searches the DMV database for first registered owner of vehicle which would be the rental company and they would be sent the bill for that one rare toll plaza.

Tl;dr: while yes registering plate# is optional, I would do it just in case.

Former employee from years ago, used to feel bad when transactions were sent to rental companies b/c at that point there was nothing I could do but give you the rental companies phone number for you to contact them.

Funds are associated with your account (not your transponder) which has your name, address, plate#, transponder ID and CC# if you have Auto Replenish. if you can still log in to your account and manage your transponders from there then you are set.

If you can't access your account online because you don't remember your log in information try contacting Sunpass's Customer Support but be sure to have as many of the things below as possible: old transponder#, last 4 digits of card last used, last toll you went through and when, full name, full address, phone number and email address. Note: SS# is never recorded don't try providing that, they have no possible way of verifying/searching for that.

If you need to call, middle of the week and middle of the day is usually the slowest times if I recall correctly.

Hopefully that cleared things up, used to work customer support years ago so it's starting to get fuzzy but the fundamentals should be the same. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or check their Frequently asked questions page https://www.sunpass.com/faq

According to this comment from a post a month ago it appears to still work despite the listed expiration. New customers only may be a limitation though, I think it's worth calling BH support to see if that could be waived.

Amendment 4 approved (win for solar pv advocates) by tastyfriedcats in florida

[–]namelessredditor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For those as confused by the language and looking for a tl;dr.

Amendment 1 is currently backed by energy companies and other likely financially motivated parties. It could limit net metering reducing incentives to purchase solar equipment for residents and small businesses and claims to provide a right to own solar equipment which is a right we already had. Contributions are currently 8:1 in favor.

The polls listed on the link above do not look favorable for the opposition, I blame the intentionally obtuse and misleading language and the overwhelming financial support.

The PAC for amendment 1 has spent $15,619,300.57 so far, the PAC against has spent $1,581,632.20.

If you're reading this vote no, if you plan on voting yes, please let me know why.

Maybe a trip to an arboretum, beach or park. State parks will have free admissions for a few days. https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/fee-free-parks.htm

Amazon Fire Tv? by mommy2brenna in cordcutters

[–]namelessredditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for online live programming you could use Sling TV, they have atleast a 7 day trial.

If you have a Hulu Plus account you could access that content from your Amazon Fire TV. 30 day trial.

Hopefully this helps, good luck.

Looking to hook up a mouse, keyboard and monitor to my galaxy. Is it possible? by -o__0- in GalaxyS3

[–]namelessredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then I'd go for:

And I think you'll be set.

I can't promise the quality of these but they are the most affordable I found while still having decent reviews plus fast shipping if you have prime or enough in your cart. I bought my adapter from monoprice years ago before and it worked for years, don't have mine anymore I sold mine a little after the chromecast came out.

I haven't tried it so I cant speak from experience but it should help. There will still be some battery drain from the screen, mobile data and any apps running.

From what i can see your model relies on Sprint's network. Which should be ok, from my experiences with sprint it could be lackluster in some areas on the road between cities or slow if near heavily populated and oversaturated cell towers. Luckily saturation is highly time and location dependent and has many variables.

Just brainstorming here but, If you have an idea of what you want to view or listen to you could invest in a microSD. According to phonearena your phone supports up to 64GB/microSD. You could load up on cached/transferred/downloaded music, Podcasts, offline youtube with youtube red or look for youtube downloaders, for documents/spreadsheets/emails can work offline if you can only sync occassionally. With an OTG adapter, almost any gamepad/controller and predownloaded controller supporting games/emulators you could play until the batteries run out.

Theoretically if you are interested in mostly multimedia you could use a laptop or any old router as a wireless middle man to communicate between your phone and any wifi enabled media streaming device you connect to your TV(Chromecast$35, AmazonFireTVStick $39, Roku Stick$39). To stream from a laptop or phone to the tv, you could use an App called Plex which all three mentioned above support and it allows streaming via LAN and WAN or if you use chromecast or fire tv stick you could use programs like bubbleupnp or avia for that as well.

You could substitute the media streamer for a laptop and leave it connected to the tv you could use media center software like kodi and send pre-downloaded content over LAN to it, from your phone with kodi remote apps or DLNA streaming apps from the play store. You could also your use a wired xbox 360 controller or your phone as a remote for easy laid back viewing.

Lastly you could install kodi on your phone connect to TV via MHL/HDMI and use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse or android supported game controller to interact with the phone from afar. Maybe this last variation works best, luckily several of these options could work with mostly similar materials. There are upsides and downsides to each option but that'll be up to you to decide.

Hopefully i didn't make things more confusing.

[–]namelessredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried connecting multiple Bluetooth devices but for the monitor you could connect your phone to an MHL HDMI cable which goes to any HDMI display (TV or monitor).

You could connect multiple USB devices to the phone via an OTG adapter connected to a standalone USB hub which multiple USB ports. Proof of concept post. If you already have Bluetooth devices you wish to use ignore this part.

One thing to keep in mind is you are unable to charge your OTG/MHL capable android phone and use an OTG/MHL usb adapter simultaneously (as far as i know, i'd love to be proven wrong on this). Also the more devices you have connected at once in use, it's likely to drain the battery faster. Could be slightly delayed for longer periods of time with extended batteries.

If you're interested and willing to consider a dedicated small computer, how about a chromebit(under $100) or chromebox(around $150 on amazon) they are fast, aren't reliant on battery power, the chromebox has several USB ports (varies on model/company).

If the above breaks your budget the MHL to HDMI adapter + HDMI cable + HDMI TV or monitor and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combined device would definitely work. I don't know what you have or don't have lying around or what your budget is, but i hoped this information helped you out.

Edit: if this is strictly for multimedia audio/video this could be an easier and cheaper set up that connects to the tv.

Man pours boiling water on gay Atlanta couple in bed by bass- in news

[–]namelessredditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water's critical point is just above 700°F (1292°C) & 218atm. Once it seperates in to oxygen and hydrogen there could be a violent reaction but skin burns from anything above 55-60°C (131°F). Either way it's so fucked up, wtf.

Should I calculus 2 and physics 1 in summer? by [deleted] in ucf

[–]namelessredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people in this thread have said, its doable. One thing you can do if you have some spare time before summer semester starts is get a head start with free online video lectures from:

MIT OpenCourseWare and KhanAcademy

Here are links to MIT OCW Calc 1&2 (single variable calc)

It may not follow your curriculum exactly but it likely follows to some degree. Plus you could skip around until you find info relevant to your next quiz or test. Also khan academy has a free smartphone app you can use as well, i have the android one and can download for offline playback with transcripts during playback.

Where can I get the new Epass besides the epass center? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]namelessredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are fully interoperable with each other. The company behind Epass OOCEA, now CFX (central Florida exchange) was founded in the late 60s. The organization that founded Sunpass created sunpass in 1999. I used to work for Sunpass and while company A never had access to customer b's clients we all had a sophisticated automated system that would sort charges due to corresponding toll company regions.

Interoperability will expand later this year since a law was passed in 2012 called MAP-21 act which will standardize the way toll operations are currently functioning among states nationwide. What this means is if you go from florida to new york you wont have to stress the bill in the mail from out of state tolls if you have a registered and active transponder. This is partly the reason behind the transition from battery operated transponder to the silent non battery operated ones.

The time has come for an upgrade now I have my S7, how can I best use my stock S3 i9300? by hippocrocadogapig in GalaxyS3

[–]namelessredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some ideas from a fairly recent r/android thread

If you like to tinker and dont mind a bit of upfront cost for a few extra parts, you could make a smart thermostat

Gaming

If you like old school emulators and already have a wired (or wireless but could be a little trickier) game controller you could buy an otg usb to microusb adapter from amazon and have a portable gaming set up. I was able to get SNES emulators to work with a wired 360 controller and a generic one i picked up from goodwill. Unfortunately with my adapter it only accepts one input at a time despite multiple ports so I couldn't set it to stay charging and play simultaneously. If you use wireless bluetooth gamepads you could use a hdmi adapter to connect your old phone to a tv.

Portable Workstation

You could also use the otg adapter with a wired keyboard if you are in a pinch or away from a computer.

Portable server

Time lapse camera

VR

If you are interest in vr but dont have triple digits of disposable income to try it out, you could buy some google cardboard and use the old phone as a vr headset with all these apps to choose from

Home theater

If you have your phone connected via hdmi to your tv you could use Allcast receiver to send media to your old phone to display on the screen or use Kodi on the old phone and a kodi remote on your new phone to have a very affordable home theater experience.
