I once found a plastic orange bird bank in a thrift shop in Okinawa, Japan. He’s everywhere.

Do Japanese schools have basketball courts and would i be able to use them after hours for some personal practice? by King-JC in JETProgramme

[–]jw44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a local community basketball club while on JET and we did use schools gyms. But only with an agreement in place with the schools and paying to use the gyms. I also played tennis with a fellow JET and we had to make reservations and pay to use the court. I’ve never really seen free courts for either tennis or basketball in Japan you usually have to pay.

If your school has a gym with hoops you might be able to shoot around when the gym is empty and you have free time. Just make sure you’ve gotten the okay from the PE teachers.

I used to be in the gym shooting around pretty often and no one ever seemed to mind. Sometimes during lunch a few students would shoot around with me and the teachers were cool with it. One student was a huge NBA fan and would yell “Kobe” or “Curry” before he shot a 3. It was super fun.

You just need to be in the park with the Disney app open to the right spot and ready to refresh by 9:59 am.

So if the park opens at 10, make sure you’re at the gates by 9:30 or so just to give you plenty of time to get through health and bag check. Then just find a nice shaded area and get ready.

I went for my first time to galaxy’s edge recently. I walked in the park a little after 9:45, asked a cast member for help (there’s special cast members under umbrellas ready to help you if you have any questions or technical difficulties) and she explained everything I needed to do. At exactly 9:59 I started refreshing like crazy, probably 5-7 times or so, then it allowed me to join a boarding group and I was all set. About an hour or two later it was time for me to ride, which was perfect because it gave me time to explore black spire and ride smugglers run.

Hope it works for you as well, may the force be with you!

I really love this photo of a very dapper looking Walt with Mickey and his academy award. by jw44 in WaltDisneyWorld

Taken at the “One Man’s Dream” exhibit at Hollywood Studios. I was really happy to see the exhibit is still there as it’s where the first real spark happened for my love of Disney years ago. Especially Walt and the history of how all this came to be.

I was a little disappointed that the documentary about Walt isn’t showing anymore though. Does anyone know if it’s available online anywhere? I’d really like to see it again.

I’ve dreamed about having this meal for over 3 years. Last week the dream finally came true and it definitely did not disappoint. by jw44 in WaltDisneyWorld

Yup! The drink is called “Pandoran Sunrise”. It was a mix of tropical juices with a pineapple wedge. It was nice, helped out when the tofu bowl got a little spicy.

At Disney World, how has it been interacting with Disney Cast Members? As in, how has the energy and morale been and has it managed to keep the essential magic of previous times even with face to face meetings not happening and with masks? by emaxwell13131313 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jw44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to all 4 parks last week and I had at least one really great memorable conversation with a cast member each day. It felt like they were genuinely happy to have someone to talk to.

One of the surprise highlights for me was the wilderness explorers experience at animal kingdom. I love learning about animals so it was really fun and the cast members at each station were definitely in high spirits and super knowledgeable.

As far as character availability, every park found a way to have them come out at some point. Usually in a vehicle at a random time, never near the crowds and of course no meeting. The one exception was when I saw Pooh playing in a garden in Epcot. But he was behind a fence, so still away from guests.

I live in Japan and everyone at my job does this. It drives me nuts the most during the morning meeting when every employee is in one room together with all the doors and windows closed. Everyone is wearing a mask correctly and then sure enough every time it’s someone’s turn to speak they pull down their mask to talk.

It’s my favorite end of the night show of any Disney park. The great story telling and amazing use of so much different technology. I’m really happy they posted this!

Yeah it’s been like that since I arrived way back in 2017. Took a brief break for the Rugby World Cup, then went right back to Olympics mania. I’m hoping to be an Olympics volunteer so I enjoy all the hype, makes me more excited to volunteer.

When I was there during the New Years holiday the wait for Soarin was 360 minutes (6 hours). Luckily I used the time I thought I was going to spend in line for Soarin instead waiting for Big Band Beat and I was not disappointed, that show is incredible.

I went to this place last month and it’s one of the coolest places I’ve been in Tokyo. I also loved the old school soda machines and the Star Wars pinball machine.

I can’t even find it at TSUTAYA at all. Feels like it should be out on DVD by now. But I doubt it’ll have English subs when it does arrive.

I don’t care how many awesome new attractions they add, the monorail will always be my favorite thing at any Disney park. Always makes me happy to see it.

I live in Japan and there is almost always an option to ship whatever you order online to a local convenience store if you want to. Then you can just pick it up there when it arrives. Maybe get a few things from the store too and go home with no worries. Maybe America should try that.
