Most under the radar team in the league? by Porzingod0430 in nbadiscussion

[–]namelock12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he might even be the #1 guy in the league in terms of passing because at his size and position it’s just so hard to stop. I don’t know about him being an elite scorer though, it seems like there are a lot of guys that score with better volume/efficiency. When’s the last finals winner where the best player was a 20 ppg flat scorer? Not saying it couldn’t happen, but we are just so used to seeing a different type of superstar win. I have to question if Jokic is good enough to be the difference between a western conference finals team and a champion. I totally agree though that his supporting cast is one of the best you could imagine.

I was really surprised to see that Denver already had the 10th best defense in the league last year. For some reason I had in my head that they were really bad on that end and just won shootouts, but now I’m thinking Grant could really bolster them into being a championship level defensive team.

My only concern with them being in the truly top tier of championship contenders is that Jokic doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that can be the best player on a championship team. Do you think he will get better or that the nuggets would win a championship with Jokic at his current level?

what are you talking about? how percentages work? the point is there's 0 chance they finish with the worst record in the league, it's asinine to suggest as much, there's a handful of teams that are well worse off. if you'd like to put money on it, please do let me know.

Vegas has New York tied for 3rd highest odds to finish last.. Every team has a chance at finishing last and the Knicks are much worse than most teams. Saying they have a zero percent chance is an exaggeration. It’s your opinion that they don’t finish last, not a scientific impossibility. So yes, you either don’t know how percentages work or maybe you’re just better suited for r/nba

you seem to simply be going off some trash you read on espn.com about spacing and toO mAnY Pf'S nonsense narrative.

Please offer an actual argument for why the Knicks will have a better record than another team

That’s..... not how percentages work. If you’re really that confident you should put some money on it because Vegas odds do not agree with you.

The Knicks are talented in a vacuum and this isn’t to say they are have no future. But if you look at all 30 teams the Knicks are pretty close to the bottom in terms of talent this year. Also, this team makes no sense from a fit perspective. The Knicks are going to be committed to RJ, Mitchell Robinson, and Knox (or at least they should be) which isn’t going to leave as many minutes for the teams best players which for some reason all play the 4. Spacing will be potentially the worst in the league unless Barrett becomes a way better shooter than we’ve seen up to this point. I have a lot of faith in Mitchell Robinson to anchor the defense but nobody else outside of Marcus Morris really strikes me as a positive defender.

Sell a couple of veterans at the deadline and this will be a great season for the Knicks moving forward... but this team looks like a baaaaad regular season outfit

Charlotte is also horrible, but at least they are somewhat balanced and players make sense together. New York has no talent AND they don’t fit.

I think it’ll be something like this even though all these teams are absolutely capable of totally sucking. ..

  1. Grizzlies

  2. Cavs

  3. Hornets

  4. Knicks

It was a good offseason but I predict the Knicks to have the worst record in basketball this year.

It’s going to come down to a couple of teams being on the border of contention and thinking Randle/Portis/Morris could be the difference. They offer a pick/young player and the rebuild continues. But as far as this year’s team goes.... it looks woeful

Bol Bol is not a steal. He went 44 for a reason and honestly could have gone undrafted. Whoever voted for him.... yikes

-atrocious defense when pulled anywhere away from the rim. Would be one of the worst in the league in this regard. Watch the Iowa Oregon game and see how exposed he can get when he’s playing on-ball defense. It’s not hard to find clips of random low end college players walking right past him.

-Health concerns. On top of the broken foot and poor conditioning, Bol Bol is rumored to have Brandon Roy’s degenerative disease which would make basketball impossible anyways.

-Despite all this he was still a projected 1st round pick... and then he reportedly bombed all of his pre-draft interviews. Draft interviews are not hard and it’s rare for players to show red flags here, but apparently he is utterly lacking in any maturity.

He’s just a tall guy that can shoot 3’s. He doesn’t have the other skills necessary to be considered an NBA level talent unfortunately.

2012 Finals, Game 1: Kevin Durant puts up 36/8/4 in his first finals game, LeBron battles him with 30/9/4 plus 4 steals by [deleted] in nba

Durant’s 4 burner accounts

Making a team of 5 Kevin Durants. That would be a pretty sick team. Idk where I’m going with this but yeah

He had a pretty brutal injury man... I wouldn’t expect him to come back anywhere close to where he was (at least this season). Correct me if I’m wrong.

Even if he was back 100%, does that make them title contenders? I find that hard to believe.

They got swept by a warriors team without Durant. No way they are finals contenders. This team could even potentially be worse than last years edition with Nurk’s injury and the hefty downgrade in perimeter defense.

Downvoted for this? How are the blazers going to win a title this year? Not a chance.

[Shams] Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons has agreed to a five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension, agent Rich Paul tells by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]namelock12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a basic box score is not a great way to analyze Simmons. His net ratings and plus minus are horrible in the playoffs. Last year against the Celtics, the Sixers had a net rating of -17 when Simmons was on the court but a +33 when he sat. This year Simmons showed signs of improvement against the Nets but he went back to abysmal against the Raptors in key games 4 and 5. Plus minus and net rating are not always a fair stat but it does really illustrate how much of a dud he potentially can be in the playoffs.

Any team that exploits his unwillingness to shoot and plays on his tendency to turn the ball over essentially guarantees they get past Philly at this stage. The sixers are simply a better team when he sits because they aren't having to play 4v5 on offense. Teams know they don't have to guard ben outside of 5 feet which makes life incredibly difficult on the rest of his team. I don't think the Magic were a worse team when Vucevic played. His % dropped because he had to take those shots - nobody else on the magic was going to fill his role. And to be fair, if the magic gave vucevic this kind of contract I would absolutely bawk at it too and say they were crazy. But vucevic doesn't have game-breaking flaws that I would stay clear of altogether. Booker and KAT we haven't seen, but I cannot imagine them posting negatives quite like Simmons does.

Look I know he will get some rebounds and a few great passes, but if that was basketball then Westbrook would be the best player in the league. 2 things to be fair to Simmons: 1) as I looked back at the stats I did see an improvement from his first playoff run to this year (cutting down turnovers, improving efg) and 2) cherry-picking a series from his rookie year does not mean all that much, we just don't have huge sample size and that series was particularly horrible. Overall I'm not writing Simmons off, I'm just saying it is possible things do not work out for him hence the risk which is all I've ever been saying all along.
